“Spectacular views of Lancashires Moorland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

There is nothing to dislike about The Trough Of Bowland, It must be OK because Royaly visits regularly, staying at Abbeystead. I prefer to drive around the Trough and have picnics. there are a number of picturesque villages with nice cafes.

Beautiful views, lovely walks, very British!

Definitely LOADS to do and see, Love it here!

“Gisburn Forest and Stocks reservoir - superb!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

Gisburn Forest includes routes for mountain bikes, and they are solid underfoot, so the good news is even if it has been raining heavily, you don't get covered in mud. The routes are graded according to the level of competence on a bike, but we have walked them all without difficulty, and the views are stunning, especially where they overlook the reservoir. However, a word of caution, if you are on foot with dogs, unfortunately quite a high percentage of riders we have encountered either don't have bells or don't use them, so they can take you by surprise, trying to get your dog/s to heel. Whilst on the subject of dogs, the tracks do abut farmland, and some have badly maintained walls and fences, so you can encounter sheep on the tracks. One of our dogs is a Lurcher/Terrier cross, so we tend to keep her on an extendable lead for control, but this in itself can be a problem if you are taken by surprise by cyclists. We have also encountered deer in the woods up close. If the weather is nice and you are feeling energetic, you can leave the forest and extend your walk around the Stocks reservoir. Again the views are stunning. There is a very large car park at the 'hub' of the tracks, and a smaller one on the road that takes you into the forest from the direction of Clitheroe. We recommend it, it is lovely, but have stout footwear and waterproofs, as we have found the weather to be changeable!
