Holiday Inn Lancaster
Ranked #4 of 6 Hotels in Lancaster
Reviewed August 25, 2008

We stayed here on two separate days a week apart. If I was reviewing this hotel on my first night it would have got a big fat ZERO. The second night in a different room has lead me to give 2 stars.

First night...
Bathroom dirty. Grout between tiles on the bathroom floor ranged from off white, turning yellow, orange, brown and then black the nearer you got to the toilet. All around the toilet was smelly black grout from urine. The whole bathroom had a horrible wiff of urine. We were too tired on our arrival to complain, and since we were only here for a night we put the bathmats around the toilet.
The rest of the floor was covered in hair....so were the bed sheets!!!
The actual room was really ok. It had recently been decorated and seemed clean. (Apart from the hairs on the bed sheets)

Pool was ok. Some hair had been cleaned out of a filter and was just left on the pool side. Otherwise changing rooms were good with lockers, free hairdryers, sauna, swimsuit dryer etc. Seemed to have a good gym, although I did not use it.

Restaurant was expensive, considering we had two children we decided to eat over the road at the Brewers Fayre.
Views from room nice, over a river. Good location, close to M6 but could not hear any traffic noise. Air con a bonus. Small play area for children which was nice.

Checked out before breakfast as we were traveling early. As we travelled with friends they were none too impressed with their room. Although a smoking room it had ash everywhere and even a butt in the ash tray. They are used to staying in holiday Inns and said this was way off standard.. the worst they had ever stayed in.

Second night was better. I asked for a different room ..not 143... and got a room on the 3rd floor. Again looking out over the river.
Toilet floor Clean!!!
Again room seemed to have recently been decorated and was clean although a few things really let it down. 3 out of the 4 mugs on the tea tray were dirty. One had a crusty fly in it! so we ordered room service. This was really expensive. One tip... order a childs portion of food. Its is a very generous size and is half the cost of an adults portion.
Window sill dirty..dead flys etc.

Pool area clean this time. Used the sauna and steam room, all fine. Had a dip in the spa bath which was also nice.

Stayed for breakfast this time. Staff were very friendly. Bought tea and coffee to us, offered refills and generally were very pleasant. Food was ok, pretty much the usual. Selection of cerials and fruit juices. Some fresh and tinned fruit with yoghurt. Toast, cooked selection. Some items available to order ie. Kippers and porridge.

Reception staff were pleasant as were the room service staff. I just feel the rooms are skimmed and not properly cleaned. I don't think the bathroom floors are ever cleaned properly... who has grout on a floor in this day and age... its a magnet for dirt. Holiday Inn should take note from premier inns etc and have vinyl, as at least it can be cleaned well.

We booked this hotel rather than the premier inn over the road because of the pool. If you do not wish to use the facilities I would recommend the premier inn. At half the cost its cleaner and better value for money.

I had been wanting to visit my family who live in the Lakes and this was a perfect central location for me and my family.
Straight of Jct 34 M6, easy access to the town centre.
Food Breakfast & Dinner was a very good standard.
I would recommend this to anyone and I will definatley be back.
Keep up the good work

I agree that some of the criticisms of this place seem misplaced. Check in was swift and my room towards the back was huge with double bed, large sofa and put up bed. Perfectly quiet despite M6 on your doostep.
Food was vastly overpriced and buffet breakfast adequate, nothing else. My company got a rate of £67 which was a bargain. A big plus was the aircon, it was a warm night and I noticed rooms in the Premier Inn across the road had their windows open despite the road noise. So, if the rate is good this is a perfectly fine hotel

Booked this hotel first then read reviews - thought I had made a big mistake!
Wrong - we asked for a quiet room - we got 323 on the back - absolutely quiet and lovely views of the river. Clean, spacious and well-equipped.
Staff were all very pleasant, food at dinner and breakfast was excellent.
Pleasant 40 min walk into the city or bus stop outside with a frequent service. Taxi alternative £6.00.
£59.00 incl breakfast with great leisure facilities.
Will certainly go again.

after reading some of the reviews I was concerned , however had a great nights stay at this Holiday Inn .Location good as its just off the M6 at junction 34 so even I managed to get there!Good base for looking round Lancaster as well as a trip to the Lakes.
The leisure facilities did look busy but I expected that as it was the weekend.
front staff were very friendly and helpful.
Rooms were clean if a little basic but for £49 a night deal through late rooms I wouldnt complain.

Arrived at 23:00 having informed the hotel that we would be late arriving. Upon checking in Iwe find that my executive room had been already occupied. I was given a suite but charged at standard rate. This room was awful, so big but very sparce. Pillows as hard as rocks. So checked out next day. Hotel staff excellant and appologetic but still checked out.
