“Good quality food and friendly staff”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Three of us ate - having toasted sarnies and chips and tea. The chips were awesome - really crisp and piping hot! Fresh baked bread too. Lovely staff - they forgot one of our drinks (but then we only remembered ourselves once we had left the cafe!) but everything else was lovely - will definitely go again.

“Best cafe in .... England? Best sandwich since 1972.”
Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

Excellent ham and cheese buttie. Thick, proper ham, mature cheddar, homemade bread, spicy pineapple chutney and a pile of salad (no iceberg in sight). He had a pile of creamy scrambled egg with lashings of smoked salmon. Excellent value and service. Thanks.

“Mixed Messages”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We were looking for somewhere to have a big english fry up and came across Maxwell's it looked like it would be the perfect place, we ordered a full English and were surprised when it came to find they had managed to stack the entire breakfast on top of one another! Don't get me wrong the presentation was excellent and the food was cooked superbly but it didn't match the surroundings and to be honest I would have rather traded a little of the presentation for a bit more substance as it wasn't the heartiest breakfast I have ever eaten. My only criticism of the actual breakfast was that the toast being at the bottom of the pile was no longer crisp and possibly soggy but everything else was excellent and it was a shame to whack a load of brown sauce on it but as I said we were looking for a fry up not a Michelin starred breakfast. Will definitely go back as I would love to know what their butties are like!!! PS please don't take any negative criticism from this review as I believe that they are a quality establishment.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review. We are sorry that you had mixed messages from Maxwells.
We always try to provide a top standard of service, food and quality produce that is presented in a way so that people can enjoy their food before they even taste it.
When you visit us again please do not hesitate to speak to either myself or one of my friendly staff and we can display it differently for you so your toast is not at the bottom etc.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

Many thanks again,

at last, a decent privately owned cafe - best scones in town and had a wonderful sweet potato soup there this Saturday! Nice staff, excellent service, home made food, good coffee!
