Very very good meal but lacking in atmospere and a little pricey . The menu was not as the web site but whatever the chief had decided he was going to cook that night this was not good as we had our hearts set on the Bass .

I've eaten here quite a few times now, and each time the quality of the food has been excellent. The food always tastes fresh and the menu always has a nice selection. If you leave a message to book a table, you always get a phone call back, which is rare!

We had a lovely meal at Bistro 26 a couple of weeks ago during an overnight stay in Lancaster. This was our second time here. I wish this place was in my home town.
The food here is absolute quality. It's not the cheapest place you will have ever been to, but you get what you pay for and the food here is excellent without being too expensive.
The restaurant has a nice pleasant atmosphere and to me this is important. The food is cooked by the Chef in the open plan kitchen area that is visible from the main eating area. The Chef's work hard and the openness of how things are done adds to the integrity of the food they prepare. The wines are lovely and the service is excellent. Highly recommended.

We've been a few times to this fantastic restaurant and have never been disappointed by anything - all courses faultless! Mark is a great chef, staff are lovely, nothing too much trouble - we even got a phone call prior to our visit once telling us to be careful on our way in as Sun Street was icy!

My wife and I attended Bistro 26 on its themed 'Taste of Lancashire' evening. Our greeting and treatment during the evening was very warm, personal and helpful throughout. There were about 6 courses in total, the first few being like tasters, with yummy little sausages with a mustard mayo, a pea & ham soup and a particularly good black pudding dish. There followed a smoked haddock dish on potato purée (which was probably the food highlight of the night), followed by the main of a Lancashire Hotpot with Red Cabbage. We then tried both of the pudding choices (an apple pie or Parkin) served with custard or cream. Little Eccles cakes completed the meal although an optional 'British Cheeses' dish did look good on the table next to ours, but we were quite satiated by this point. The whole evening, including a couple of large glasses of wine each, came to about £70, so was excellent value for what proved to be an excellent experience. I can't understand why this restaurant is so far down the Trip Advisor list of Lancaster Restaurants given its excellent reviews. Please ignore the position and just go!
