“The Last Supper”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

We used to love dining here, real wholesome pub grub, sat by an open fire. sadly, this is no longer the case. I am not sure whether the landlord has introduced austerity measures, as we sat in the cold to remarkably downsized, substandard portions. Given the handful of whitebait, which was searved as a starter, perhaps the landlord should consider relocating the goldfish? Moving on to the second course, how can three identical dishes vary so dramatically and why were there more peas than chips on my son's plate?
I now understand why many of the locals have jumped ship (no pun intended), in favour of the neighbouring establishment.

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

I would agree with the previous report. We too had the sirloin steak which was very fatty and grisley. The chips were the dregs and the pepper sauce was more like garlic sauce and very thin. :-(. After being asked twice, by the waitress and whilst paying the bill, the only response was a shrug of the shoulders. Wont recommend and wont be returning.

“such a disappointment”
Reviewed March 18, 2012

This was chosen by hubby for his birthday meal, shame cause it won't be chosen by any of us again. We have been here many times over the past few years but it'll be a long time till we return if we ever do. 2 of us had the sirloin steak & we both found almost half of the steak was fat & gristle, the chips were ok, the salad was... well salad & the veg ok too. The meals aren't cheap for pub grub, the waitresses are very young & when we were asked how the meal was & I said we were disappointed with the quality of the steaks all she could respond with was "Oh I'm sorry". Well I'm sorry too because we won't be going back.

“Good wholesome food”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

Staying with a friend in the village and decided to go to the Ship for an evening meal for a change. having been to another of the local hostelries for a drink the night before, wanted to try something different.
On entering a very nice atmosphere, with other diners clearly enjoying their meal. A warm welcome from the landlord who advised we could sit anywhere to eat. we duly chose your table and decided on drinks whilst reviewing the menu and specials board. It was rather disconcerting when, having ordered our drinks, the landlord continued a conversation with an other customer whist getting the drinks. these were duly placed in front of me, again mid conversation.
I duly waited to pay, and, when I managed to catch the eye of the landlord during a slight gap in the conversation, I offered payment but with a nod of the head from the said landlord, that the drinks would be added to the food bill.
Just an observation.... Having said that, the food and ambience, and company was first class.

“They've Got Greedy Again”
Reviewed February 7, 2012

This used to be a really good place to eat. Then the owners got greedy. The prices went up, and although the portions stayed the same, the quality of food went way down. The place went really quiet for a while. Then they seemed to get their act together and things got better again. As soon as the place got back on its feet, the quality went back down again. They never have enough staff on - the bar staff have to help to serve the food, leaving drinkers waiting for ages at the bar. Our waitress was so busy because she was on her own, she actually broke into a run at one point. We won't be going back.
