We have been meaning to eat here for ages but were very disappointed when we finally did. The dining room is lovely, the menu is OK and the staff efficient. But the food was oh so bland!
The pastry of the steak and ale pudding was too dry and the chicken duo could have done with a lot more vegetables. Won't be going back.

The Borough is a quirky place and will appeal to most people. Plenty of tables, but does get busy. Really good selection of beer and wine. Food is OK, and whilst the main menu is a bit lacking there is always a good specials selection. Price is slightly on the high side, but if two of you dine you get a free bottle of wine (of course, not the best selection) and you can trade up.

We booked a table for our friends so that she could celebrate her 30th with her husband. We used the Dukes cinema and school dinners offer (£10.95 for a meal and cinema ticket pp) and they were very impressed. Fantastic service, food and atmosphere. We dropped off some balloons, banners and cake which the staff kindly decorated for us before they arrived and promptly brought out the cake after they had eaten.

This offer provides fantastic value for money and the school dinner menu is brilliant value. I can;t believe it runs on Fridays and Saturdays. Most pubs/restaurants only run these types of offers during the week. They have now introduced a 10% off card for loyal customers which provides me with another excuse to visit with friends and family.

Lots of brilliant lagers and ales to choose from. Love the comedy nights which I have been to a few times. Keep up the fantastic work.

Book to avoid disappointment.

We have been coming to The Borough since it opened in 2006 and have been consistently impressed by the quality of its service and locally-sourced food.
Our most recent visit was for lunch on a Friday. We'd booked in advance using the online facility and this is advisable because it's a very popular place.
We opted for the School Dinners menu which is great value at only £5 per person including a coffee or soft drink and a further £2 if you want a pudding. I had the Lancashire Ploughman and my wife had the Mini Fish and Chips. We both chose crumble and custard to follow. Everything was excellent as usual. Afterwards we moved through to the bar area for drinks and sat in the comfortable leather chairs.
Hannah and the team clearly have the drive, vision and business nous to cater for the needs of a wide range of local customers and visitors to Lancaster. Food is served all day, there is a good selection of wines and beer with discounts for CAMRA members, comedy nights, a functions room, cinema deals and promotions or offers. It has a five star hygiene rating, which is always reassuring.
When John Bishop was filming in Lancaster recently he named The Borough as his favourite pub in Lancaster, he wasn't joking.
