Went for afternoon tea deal with champagne. Fantastic! Lovely cakes, sandwiches, pot of tea and 2 glasses of bubbly champagne. Well presented, great value for money. The place is looked after with lovely staff. Will be going again!

“4 Course Taster Menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

We went to the Borough after visiting for drinks previously and liked the look of the food. We were lucky enough to get a Travelzoo deal which was for a 4 course taster menu. Dont be misled by the title, there was not a taster portion in sight and what we got were 4 full courses of excellent food with the added bonus of a free glass of bubbly. The only criticism I had was it wasnt what we expected it far exceeded that but ruined the diet i had stuck to religiously for the previous week

“Party at The Borough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We had a party for my brother and his wife held in the upstairs function room on 29th December 2012. The service was excellent and the staff fully accomodating. The Borough were more than happy to help with all our needs and regularly ensured that all was catered for.

Thank you to Hannah and the team for making our family party a night to remember.

We shall definitely be back.

“Could not have asked for more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We booked the drawing room upstairs for our wedding reception as the room was the prefect size for our wedding of 60 people and we wanted a central Lancaster location for the ease of our guests. The room itself its elegant with tasteful wallpaper, 3 floor to ceiling period windows that let the light flood in and 2 amazingly sparkly chandeliers!
From the word go the staff at the Borough could not have done more to accomodate our requests. Every idea we had was met with enthusiasm and positivity. Our colour scheme was purple and they even offered to take the red curtains down for us! Nothing was too much trouble.
Hannah and her team took their lead from us and did as much or as little as we wanted, for example they set the room up the day before but aloowed us to come in and decorate ourselves the night before. Everything we asked of them was done and done correctly first time. The communication was outstanding.
On the wedding day its self the staff seemed genuinely pleased to see us and happy to be there. I dont have enough superlatives to praise the staff and the service enough. OUr guests drinks orders were taken and drinks were brought to their tables throughout the meal and one waiter discretely occassionally checked with me and my husband that everything was just as we wanted.
Then the food arrived!! What can I say?!! We had chosen deli boards for each table and for guests to help themselves. They were incredibe with freshly cooked ham, local cheese, salad etc and the portions were very generous. After the starter we had guests coming to praise the meal... they thought that was the whole meal, such was the quantity! We took great pleasure in asking the guests to be reseated for the second and third courses!
The main was beef cobbler, mash, red cabbage and steamed buttered veg. This was again outstanding! Pudding was either apple crumble and custard or profitteroles. The Borough had worked with us as a couple to put this menu together so it was exactly as we wanted and we couldnt have been happier! We had so many compliments about the food and the staff that we were proud we had chosen the Borough for our reception. For what we paid the valuefor money was outstanding too.
We both genuinely feel that ALL the staff at the Borough cared as much as we did about our wedding and went out of their way to make it perfect. We had the most perfect relaxed reception safe in the knowledge that our guests were in good hands.

We have eaten in the Borough several times since and each and every meal was equally as good and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a good value, locally sourced tastly meal out.

I cannot reccomend the Borough enough for a special event and we will be using the drawing room for any future functions we hold. It is so refreshing to deal with people with such a positive attitude. This is a local business that deserves all the sucess in the world.

“Great pub, great food, great party”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

I was invited on the 29th December to a party in the upstairs room at The Borough in Lancaster for a childhoos friend who was back for a short while after he emmigrated to Australia. His parents organised it so friends and family could get together to see Gary and his pregant wife. The room was clean and well laid out for the size of the party, the wine (paid for by the parents) was in Ice buckets (white/rose') and on the table (red) and was very palatable. Where The Borough excelled was the food and the service. Winter food was called for and the nicest Beef cobbler was served in good portions withg condiments to stave off the high spirited drunkeness!! I was fortunate enough to also try the lamb hot pot which was equally tasty although I'm glad I went for the cobbler!!! The food was hot, it was plentiful and the staff were superb. The other thing to mention is that the upstairs room does not have its own bar, and traipsing up and down the stairs to get served in the public bar could be deemed a hassle. No problems to The Borough, they got staff to take the drinks orders so no one had to move!! And as the night went on and people imbibed more alcohol the patience of the staff must've been tested!!! Thanks to The Borough for providing a great venue for a great party. FYI- there was a Wedding Party downstairs so it was very busy for all the staff!!
