“Worth repeating”
Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

Last nights open evening with tapas style tasting menu was so enjoyable. This was our second visit having tried the tasting menu on the first we elected to be emailed event details. It Started with the house cocktail on the stylish sunny terrace accompanied by flamenco guitarist Matthew Hernandez. The excellent food and wines , professional service and tasteful comfortable decor all made a special experience. We look forward to the next visit.

“Why ask if you don't care about 'Special Requests'”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

I really wanted to give this restaurant 4 stars as the food and ambience were really excellent. Sadly they disappointed in the key ingredient of customer service. The website allows you to book on line and state and special requests. One of us is a coeliac and as such requires a gluten free meal. You'd have thought that, as they knew this, they'd be somewhat prepared. Not a bit of it. Bread was delivered and they didn't know whether the polenta bread was suitable for gluten free(gf). They did in fact have a gluten free bread which they subsequently brought. Then on almost every dish that our gf diner enquirer about, they had to go back to ask the chef. A little preparation of the staff would easily have saved this silly to-ing and fro-ing experience, which only served to embarrass our gf friend.
The food was very good, save for the rather dull experience for the gf diner, who ended up with a pretty dull meal(she said that was not an unusual experience for her). The only minor criticism was that of managing expectations for salt cooked new potatoes. These were, in fact, a rather dull boiled, unpeeled new potato. If there had been an added process, it defied the diner.
Service was generally good, though the older waiter, with what sounded like a French accent, was very reluctant to engage in a dialogue about one of the dishes and rushed away, almost mid sentence.
Nice wine list with a good selection under £30 and a flexible approach to mix and match on the a la carte and fixed price menus.

So, overall a good experience but with just a little effort in the area of customer service and it would have easily merited 4 stars.

“Very Enjoyable”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Lovely restaurant for anyone who enjoys fine food or wants to treat someone on a special occasion. It's about £100 per couple on average for a meal. It's a bit pricier than a lot of the local restaurants however I really felt it was worth it as the food was excellent quality.
I'd definitely recommend.

“Wonderful sunday lunch”

Thankfully this was exactly what we hoped. Excellent service from the moment we walked in, great food, beautiful deco. Wine list perhaps too extensive making it difficult to decide but that would be my only criticism.Would definitely visit again.

“An experience that I'll never forget”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

My first fine-dining experience, and we went for the tasting menu. On the whole we were thrilled with what we were given, with the brill, wood pigeon and mackerel dishes being particular hits. Both the pre-dessert (a play on lemon meringue pie with raspberries) and dessert were superb, though the final act as it were did differ from that advertised on the website, which was a disappointment, though the replacement was very good in itself. A couple of dishes didn't resonate with us, (cheese in particular), but that's probably just personal taste. Breads were available as well, and were also very tasty, treacle bread in particular. Overall depth of flavour and attention to detail in the food and it's surroundings was superb. Often the supposed star of the dish would be there, be great, but be overshadowed by the other elements on the plate.

All in all, would thoroughly recommend this, it's an event rather than just a meal, and a very satisfying one at that. And most importantly, didn't leave feeling hungry, as I'm sure some people might fear!
