On the surface this is a great place and I would stay again but there are some niggles that I would like straightened out.
The room is superficially clean but raise your head up and you will find dirty ventilators in bathrooms and cobwebs in corners
Small details are overlooked in housekeeping, empty hanky holders, out of date creamers in the tea and coffee facilities, light bulbs not working and not replaced from day to day
There was no one in the bar to serve during the afternoon. We waited but they displayed no hurry to help or apology that we were left waiting and the tables needed cleaning
Breakfast was good except that they kept delivering food regardless of the fact we were still eating so cooked breakfast had to wait and get cold on the table while we finished cereal
No one thought to remove plates etc on our small overcrowded table, we were three people, the table was for four, but very tight
We had the impression that no one received training on how to serve breakfast/bar as it was a little hit and miss.
This is a good hotel, but it could be so much better. Oh and don't stay in a room overlooking the pub as it is really noisy til the early hours.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a room overlooking the pub

Its not easy to find a decent, reasonably priced and centrally located hotel in Leamington Spa.We stayed in the town several times (visiting my daughter who studied at Warwick Uni) and my opinion is that the Angel is the only hotel that ticks the boxes ie walking distance to shops & restaurants, clean, friendly and reasonable value for money (compared to other places in town). The staff were amazing - we arrived extremely tired, after an all night journey, at 5:30am knowing that our room wouldn't be ready until 3pm. The night porter helped us put our suitcases in a store and he then served us a much appreciated , piping hot pot of coffee. We were then offered a complimentary breakfast to keep us going. The staff made sure that our room was cleaned as priority so we were able to get in to the room at 9:30am. THANKYOU - this was highly appreciated and allowed us to catch up on our sleep and get ready for my daughter's graduation ceremony. The room (twin, room 62) is a bit "tired" but was very clean and although not large it was certainly big enough .( On a previous stay we were able to book the suite and it is absolutely lovely - huge bedroom and bathroom.) Coffee, tea and biscuits in room.Plenty of towels and shampoos, etc. The breakfast is excellent - cooked to order (choice of full English or scrambled egg on toast, kippers, etc, etc) as well as cereals and juices. The breakfast room is very pleasant with good sized tables and fresh decoration. There's free WIFI but the connection is only in the lounge, restaurant and on the outside terrace (ie not in room) but this was good enough for me. I enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace until late in the night - you can order drinks there but you don't have to. There's also a cozy bar inside. The location is perfect - we walked round the corner to the shops and bus stop (20 minute bus ride to the Uni campus). But again its really the staff that makes this hotel special - they really couldn't be more welcoming and helpful...and the special mention goes to the night porter!
(I would have given full rating except for the rooms being a little dated)

Room Tip: rooms to the courtyard quieter. if you like more space or for a special stay then try to get the suite (above the reception)

My husband & I booked our 25th wedding anniversary party at the Angel and we also decided to book a room for 2 nights, as it was a special occasion. From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful, our room was lovely and dinner on the first night was absolutely first class. Breakfast the following morning was again first class. The function room was beautifully decorated and the buffet was fantastic and a good night was had by all our guests, again the staff were absolutely splendid. I would not hesitate to recommend the Angel to one and all.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago as part of a wedding party. Check in was a good time - midday so we could leave our things before going off to the wedding.

Rooms were small but clean and well equipped.

Bar was also good, very reasonably priced and available when we returned from the wedding.

Rooms were comfortable and quiet during the night.

We got parked on site however the car park is extremely small in comparison to the size of the hotel so be sure to get there early if this bothers you. Otherwise there are plenty of public car parks nearby.

Overall good stay here.

I've stayed at this hotel for three weeks during a work assignment in June 2012.
The staff is incredibly friendly and makes all possible effforts to help.
Breakfast is good with cooked options prepared on-demand, but it lacks variety. No cakes or muffins for those who like sweet options in the morning.

My room was very small and the lack of space made using my laptop in the desktop a very uncomfortable task.
Also, there were stains in the walls and the springs matress were not very comfortable.
No lift for taking the luggage up and down.

In short, a decent stay, but nothing special really.
