Description: Benjamin Satchwell played an important part in the transformation of Leamington, from a small village into a thriving spa town. As a result, he was dubbed the 'Father of Leamington Spa', and has given his name to this Wetherspoon pub. Benjamin Satchwell lived at the corner of what is now New Street, in a cottage which was also used as the village post office. After his death, in 1810, it was managed by his daughter, Elizabeth. In 1784, Satchwell and his friend William Abbott, the landlord of The Black Dog, found Leamington's second spring. The village now had a source of mineral water which was not controlled by the Lord of the Manor, which was developed commercially.

Good place to have a real English breakfast. First you think:"Do I really have to eat this", but it works out very well. In the evening it's a nice place to stay, with a lot of beers and other drinks. Staff is okay, prices are low

We were led to believe that the other Whetherspoon's pub was the better, but we preferred this one. Quick service, good food and a lively but friendly atmosphere.

A fine example of the successful Wetherspoon's formula - good food, great range of beers, cosy welcoming surroundings and chirpy helpful staff - all at stonking easy on the pocket prices. The place was packed with happy punters and we all had a a good meal and a great evening.

As with most 'spoons the food and beer is cheap, so it doesn't cost you a lot to eat and drink here. We drank in the evening and had breakfast the next morning. It was fairly busy but service was very slow, both at the bar and waiting for your food. It took 25 minutes to get a bowl of porridge and about that long to get served at the bar too ! For breakfast you also have to accept that even though it is only 10am the local drunks are there having their pints, so the atmosphere isn't great.

In the evening we ended up just down the road at the other 'spoon, called the Jug & Jester, and that was a far better experience. So personally I suggest you head up there.

Myself and two other friends visited this Wetherspoons on a Saturday, early evening as we were going to the theater later on. I ordered a large mixed grill which came with a drink which cost £11.40 and my two friends had steak and kidney pudding and Wiltshire ham and eggs which was part of the two for £6.59 meal deal.

Although it seemed quite busy, service was quite quick and our food arrived promptly. We did change seats however as the table we originally chose, two of the seats seemed quite low so the table we moved to was a lot better.

Considering the price, the portions were quite reasonable and food good value. Two of us found our chips lukewarm but we still quite enjoyed our meal overall. I particularly enjoyed the pork and leek sausages.

I would also like to point out that the pub was quite noisy with laughing and a baby crying at one point.

Overall not bad.
