Choice for the restaurant was made because of the availability of the a la carte menu as well as the festive menu during the Christmas period. It's my other half's birthday between Christmas and New Year and we wanted to celebrate without the festive food! The hotel manager confirmed the menu choice by email. On arrival at the restaurant we were presented with the festive menu and after querying the a la carte availability, we were advised that it was not available. First disappointment!
In terms of the food, whilst the starters were of good quality and taste, for main we ordered two different types of steak and cooked preferences - these were unfortunately muddled. It appeared we weren't the only ones who this happened to. We carried on in the hope of some good desserts and when presented with the menus to choose desserts, noticed the menu choice had changed with some of the a la carte main courses noted on the festive menu. We queried this and were advised that after our orders they had ran out of some of the mains and had to change the menu. The restaurant was not hugely busy so this was a little odd.
We made our dessert selections and I ordered a strudel. Despite the festive choice, it looked great on arrival. Whilst tucking in, I came across something hair like or plastic in the dish. I advised the waiter who took it away. By that time I 'd had enough of the experience and didn't want another. Granted I was offered another one on the waiters return but he also added 'don't worry it was only a pastry brush hair' ... Not exactly what the customer wants to hear. The dessert price was taken off our bill, to be expected of course given i didn't eat one so a rather obvious statement to make. Sour end to the end of our evening out!
After good recommendations I expected more, the restaurant needs to get back to the standards of food, service and surroundings it appears to be known for. We'll not bother again though!
