the bus station is dirty cold an generally in bad condition. it is usually filled with load youths causing trouble and making you feel very uneasy i would rather wait at the bus stops on the way out of town than go to the bus station

“Iconic - see it while you can”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

Brutalist structure, largest bus station in Europe when built has suffered so much from lack of updating. An efficient place for bus passengers to get on / off / transfer but with doors left open it becomes a cold grim place to wait. Any other country would invest in electric doors, carpets, comfortable seating, mood enhancing lighting but its as if Preston wants you to have the worst first / last impression of this dynamic city

“All it lacks is vision and guardianship...”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

It's unique // it's different // it's a talking point >>> It'll probably not look anything special to a tourist, but look at the bigger picture, look into it's history, and follow the debate between demolition or resuscitation and you'll end up coming to love and admire the place.

Yes it needs work (nothing major)
Yes it needs a vision (a tramline to the train station would be a start)
And yes it needs investment (Gone are the days when we can rely on the Council)

It is the single most iconic structure in our City. All it needs is someone to take it forward - at which point, it really will become a tourist attraction! (Convert one half into retail, drinking and art establishments, grass over the concrete and create a safe pleasant social space!)

Look at the finer detail: the old fashioned six foot clocks hanging from the ceiling, the African Hardwood woodwork, the Pirelli rubber flooring (creator of Formula 1 tyres) >>> There is so much beauty within the space! And yes, when over 50,000 commuters use it daily there's blatantly going to be unsightly elements too)

Overall though, it's a great symbol of an uncaring Council, of a public space abandoned by it's guardians and of a modern day society which favours small, simple and cheap over anything & everything else!

If anything, by coming to view the bus station, you'll be able to make your own mind up over the debate...
