Owner description: The museum contains informative and colourful displays about the prehistory and Roman history of Ribchester, using many archaeological finds from the site, including coins, sculpture and metalwork. There are also remains of the Roman fort and baths outside the museum. Regular events and temporary exhibitions take place throughout the year. Pre-booked guided tours and educational visits can be arranged by email. Our next event is Iron Age Day on Sunday 10th September 2017. Come and find out about life in Celtic Britain!

Ribchester is a small museum, but extremely well-presented. The displays and information relate not only to the Roman occupation but also to the tribes of Britain in pre-Roman times. It is well worth spending time reading all the captions and posters. Watch out for the Roman soldier - he's disturbingly realistic!

We heard about the Roman remains at Ribchester, and as we were staying in the vicinity decided to pay a visit. The museum has recently been revamped and is very well laid out with all of the details of the history of Ribchester and the various occupying forces. The jewel in the crown of the museum is the original Ribchester Helmet which has just been returned there from display at the British Museum. It is a ceremonial full head and face helmet worn by one of the occupying Roman dignitaries some 2000 years ago. It is beautifully decorated with roman figures, and although somewhat worse for wear in parts, it is a wonderful artifact none the less.
Besides the helmet there are many other artifacts and displays showing how the Romans lived. A very interesting and informative little museum, and well worth a visit

Small Museum £3 entrance fee for adults, The Museum is very well laid out plenty of information boards and a few exhibits about 20- 30 minutes to go round but worth looking at.
The Museum faces the River Ribble where you will find benches and grass to picnic on.

Although this is a small museum, it is well out together and quite informative. The area is rich in history and although there is not a great deal here what there was told the story, if you are in the area you should pop in, we enjoyed it.

A small local museum describing finds in Ribchester. Entrance for adults is £3.00. Unfortunately, the Roman site itself is not visible. The museum is informative - lots of information boards. The exhibits are relatively few, but interesting. There are foundations of Roman baths nearby. Ribchester itself is a pretty village in a beautiful setting. So, a low-key, pleasant afternoon visit. (Incidentally, if you like to see what the Romans did, visit Caerleon in South Wales.)
