“lovely food - great atmosphere”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We went to the hand and dagger on sunday - there was a party of 16 of us - even though the pub was busy due to a hot bank holiday weekend - we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly bar staff. the food was excellent - i had the roast beef dinner which was well prepared, cooked and served - it was good beef and a proper home made sunday dinner - not the stuff many pubs serve these days - great value for money and i will most definitely be back!

“Love this place”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

I really don't know where to start, first let me say I am an extremely fussy eater. I visited the Hand and Dagger a good few years ago and basically it was a no go. When my partner suggested it a few months ago it was a firm "not a chance" until he said it has had new owners for a few years. Not only is the quality of the food excellent but the atmosphere is second to none. Being in customer service this place ticks every box. The landlord is hilarious he really should be on the stage ;-) the staff are fantastic and the locals are lovely also.

We visited last Sunday and it was so busy but there professionalism and customer service did not change neither did the food. There was two elderly ladies sitting near to us and they was giggling like schoolgirls and thoroughly enjoyed their visit very heartwarming to see.

I can not recommend this lovely pub enough which is rare for me being the fussy moo that I am ;-)

“Very good”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Just called in for a quick Friday night tea. Husband had Morecambe Bay shrimps with toast and salad garnish for starter, followed by steak and ale pie, chips and a panache of vegetables. He enjoyed every bit of his meal. I had Lancashire hotpot, again with the panache of vegetables - wasn't sure what a panache was but it came as a mix of carrot, runner beans, cabbage and broccoli and it was delicious. There was also a good helping of a red cabbage type chutney. My hotpot was very tasty although I was a bit dubious when it arrived as the gravy surrounding it had skinned all around the dish and it didn't look very appetising. I was very happy with it though. Everything was piping hot, including the plates. This is a traditional country pub - it isn't smart but it's cosy and welcoming. The prices are average - our bill came to just under £30 for 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 drinks, but the food is definitely above average. We will be returning.
