“Stay At Barnacre Cottages - you'll be happy that you did!!!”
Reviewed July 24, 2011 for a stay in May 2011

This cottage was our home away from home- we wish we could have stayed longer than a week . From the instant of arrival, to the moment we left we had a wonderful experience. The cottage is welcoming and homey and beautifully furnished and supplied. It is also perfectly set up for disabled folks. Terry and Sue are amazing who are helpful, kind and very, very caring. The Cottages more than deserve their 5 Rosette rating.
If you are looking for a relaxing location with lovely views this is the place for you. It is also convenient to the Lakes and lovely surrounding areas. There are super restaurants nearby (the Derby outside of Longridge was our fav) and the town of Garstang is pretty and has great shopping. Be sure to check out Sue's website as it holds a plethora of useful information. Sue also stocks the Cottage with lots of other tourist information for you.

“If you want the 'perfect getaway' look no further!”
Reviewed December 8, 2010 for a stay in December 2010

This is one of six beautiful cottages with it's own private, peaceful gardens. You can be assured of a warm welcome not only by the owners but also the fabulous Aga and roaring fire! The open plan living, kitchen and dining area really has the wow factor. And for when you need to venture out, there are plenty of amenities in the area. For however long your stay, I guarantee you'll be saying "if only we had one more day here!".

“Barnacre...the best of the best!...don't miss this GEM!”
Reviewed October 11, 2010 for a stay in October 2010

We have just returned from another delightful holiday at Barnacre Cottages. This must be our fifteenth or sixteenth stay there. We sometimes wonder whether we ought to try other self-catering cottages, perhaps in a different area. However, nowhere could possibly come close to Barnacre, in particular Mole End - truly our second home!

We live in the city and, while we have spent a few summer holidays in recent years in Florida, we return to Barnacre two or three times a year to enjoy a complete break from our usual busy lives. The pace of life is so relaxed there. When we first started visiting, we spent quite a few days out and about. However, we now prefer to stay in and around the cottage, perhaps going out for a meal to The Barn at Scorton, The Longridge Restaurant or the Inn at Whitewell. As soon as we arrive on a Friday, having driven down straight from the school run, we feel the tension disappearing as we sink into the wonderfully comfortable leather sofas. Shortly after arriving, our online grocery order, placed in advance online through a well-known supermarket, arrives. We then only have to pour out the gin and tonics and get on with the relaxation!

We have three boys, aged 15, 12 and 9 now. The onsite play-park has long been a favourite with all of them and, I must admit, I always enjoy sitting on a swing soaking up the atmosphere and admiring the stunning view! The boys also enjoy scampering (a good description!) in the field with sticks, poking at the mole-hills and looking for rabbits - real Enid Blyton stuff! This is perhaps not so true of the 15-year-old now but the recently installed Wi Fi takes care of him!

There is a wealth of wildlife at Barnacre. At the bird table in the back garden we love to watch finches and woodpeckers helping themselves. Until, that is, Super Squirrel comes along to eat his fill! The resident chickens ('the girls') come clucking round the back door at breakfast time to have scraps of toast (made on the Aga!). Perhaps 'scraps' is not strictly true - slices would be more like it! We often see deer walking past the front windows in the evening - a wonderful sight. In the spring, there are often lambs to be bottle-fed. The boys love helping with this and also collecting eggs, which are obligingly produced by 'the girls'!

We look on our Barnacre holidays as a slice of real country life. Waterproof jackets and wellingtons are a must but, in fact, we have only ever had one or two days of rain during any one week. It can be muddy in the field but wellies take care of that. There is even an outside tap to hose them down afterwards.

Now to the Aga! I used to consider this a dreadful invention until I read a book on it. It is now my best holiday friend! It is a completely different way of cooking but, once the theory is understood, it is a real pleasure to use. My husband has even bought me an Aga apron and matching oven gloves - blue, to match the Aga in Mole End - and I pack them for every trip! For non-fans, there is a Miele combination microwave, which will heat up your ready-meal curry in no time! I must admit, though, that I have even made bread from scratch at Mole End!

I was amazed to read the other review on this site. All the 'faults' described therein are not our experience. The owners have kindly shown us round all of the cottages over the years. In fact, we used to stay in Partridge and then The Old Stables, if we had a larger party, before Mole End was built. The first time we visited Partridge Cottage one February, a wonderful log fire greeted us on our arrival. All of the cottages are outstanding. Mole End and Woodpecker are more spacious that the older ones but they are all equipped to the highest standard. We have high-quality appliances at home and the last thing I want to do on holiday is cope with some second-rate equipment. This is simply not an issue at Barnacre. Nothing has been forgotten and we have never encountered problems with the cottages or their equipment.

The bottom line here is this - Barnacre Cottages are in the country. Holidays here are a real change of scene for city dwellers - a taste of real country life. If you don't want to let your children play in a field in case they get ticks, don't bother coming - it's definitely not for you. Everyone else - get the green wellies on and come on down!

“BARNACRE.....TERRIFIC COTTAGES & FIVE STAR IN EVERY WAY.”
Reviewed October 9, 2010 for a stay in November 2009

We have stayed at Barnacre Cottages on at least 8 occasions over the past few years.
The quality of the cottages is quite outstanding ...where else will you find Villeroy & Boch crockery & crystal wine glasses in a self catering apartment?
Owners Sue & Terry are lovely, caring people who go out of theio way to makle certain that guests are wholly satisfied with their stay & the percentage of 'return guests ' is a clear indication of complete satisfaction.
The area is rural & peace & quiet are in abundance & the cottages are warm & superbly equipped . What more could anyone want on this type of holiday we wonder?
We were astounded by the previous review which seems both unreasonable & vindictive and must ask what likelihood there is of being affected by a deer's 'tick' when these animals are so shy that they will run a mile at the sight of a human being!!!
Ignore reports that go out of their way to look for stupid things & just go & see for yourself that this is one of the leading self catering establishments in the UK.
And note this...we have written on restaurants, hotels & travel for many years and simply NEVER accept second best.
As we said at the start...BARNACRE COTTAGES ARE TERRIFIC...IN EVERY WAY.
Trey them & we don't think you will be disappointed.
