The nicely surprising thing for us was discovering a very pleasant, off the beaten track, footpath to the town center . (Well, it's on the once-beaten track of the now-disused railway line.) The receptionist only mentioned it as an afterthought, but it turned out to be a very tranquil and pretty half-hour or so walk into & out of town. It begins in a small housing estate opposite - you'd never find it if you didn't know it was there. Buggy-friendly too. Rooms clean and comfortable. Current building work was no inconvenience at all.
But - the restaurant is best avoided. There is an indoor kids 'soft play' area adjacent to the restaurant with some not so soft bits and very dubious cleanliness. Atmosphere in the restuarant when we were there was rowdy and unpleasant. No problem with the kids, but the parents.....
Breakfast was a tad shambolic too - I get the impression that the staff try fairly hard, but there simply aren't enough of them.
