“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2011

Four of us had booked a 'spa day' and had a two hour drive to the location thinking we were going somewhere posh. The small pool was full of children throwing plastic objects about, there was no relaxing chairs around the pool, the jacuzzi bath was very small, the changing rooms were very basic. The staff delivering the treatments were very good but one of the party was in the treatment room by the reception desk and could hear every bit of gossip and noise that was going on - not very relaxing! We then went for food in the bar and even though we put it through as one order it arrived at our table with 20 minutes between the first persons and the fourth person so we all ate separately. We certainly would not recommend it as a spa break..

PuckrupHall, Guest Relations Manager at Hilton Puckrup Hall, Tewkesbury, responded to this review, January 25, 2012
Dear Guest

Thank you for your comments on this website, I am sorry you were dissapointed with your Spa Day.

Hilton Puckrup Hall is a Hotel with a Spa. The Hotel has a Health Club which the Hotel guests and Club members use, therefore this is the reason why other members of the public were present at the time of your visit.

I am pleased that you enjoyed the treatments here and I have passed your comments to our Food and Beverage Manager with regards to the meals not being delivered altogether to ensure this level of service is not experienced again.

With kind regards.

Lynn Bishop

My wife and I stayed here in December 2011 en route from the midlands to the south west. We had a discounted deal in the Hilton sale at a third off. Reception were pleasant and efficient. The room was right at the end of a corridor but as we had asked for a quiet part of the hotel this fitted the bill. The room was of an adequate size and the bed was comfy. Once we turned up the radiator. We visited the Terrace bar for food and drinks which was very quiet, but a TV playing to no-one competed with background music making it not a relaxed place to chat and eat. Both food and drinks were a tad on the high side even for a 4 star hotel, for example fish and chips £14. Breakfast was OK not as good as some Hiltons but nothing really to complain about. The location of this hotel is good with easy access to the M50 and M5. At the time of our stay the weather was dreary and cold.

We visited this hotel for a quick few days away. Reception was good, but the rooms are generally miles away and the organisation is not great. I asked for details of the spa, but this was only given when I went down there as no-one responded. I booked in for a massage and went down on time, only to hear them 15 mins later calling my room asking where I was! Then the therapist changed so rather chaotic - but nothing in comparison to payment. I asked them to put it on the room but this was not possible - I had come in from the gym and pool so had no cash/cards on me so said that I would get it to them the following day as I was the last appointment. I got back to the room and they were on the phone asking for credit card details - so rather a niggle for a relaxation massage!

The food is adequate but not exciting and there is nothing really close to go to as an alternative.

Tewkesbury is lovely and we also visited the Cotswold falconry centre (highly recommended) and the town of Stow on the Wold.

I would have to be persuaded to return to the hotel but the area is lovely

Room Tip: Get booking early - depending on how far you are prepared to walk. The older part of the hotel has m...

Nicely located hotel with friendly helpfull staff. Good small gym and a nice pool. Very good breakfast. The only problem we had was with parking, there was a wedding there when we arrived and it was very difficult to find a parking place.
We booked it in the Hilton January sale so it was good value.

3.5, really! Stayed here for one night, booked via Lastminute's "Top Secret" deal - luckily I had the paperwork to show I'd booked a deluxe double as the hotel staff were unaware of this - quickly remedied though, and the room was nice (if perhaps not exactly "deluxe" - no complimentary dressing gowns, no wine, etc). A minor point is that it seems outdated to greet couples as "Mr and Mrs" these days - I always book our hotel stays and my poor partner is always assumed to be Mr. MySurname! We used the nice pool, jacuzzi and steam room - as another reviewer has pointed out, it's a shame that the saunas are located in the male and female changing rooms, so couples can't use these together. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and nice quality. We had dinner in the restaurant and I thought the food was pricey for what it was, and the wine prices were absolutely astronomical. I know wine is never cheap in hotels but there's a difference between a big mark-up and a total rip-off. Bar prices were similarly extortionate. Things like that would put me off going back to what is otherwise a nice hotel with friendly staff.

So, plusses first:
Staff are always really friendly and helpful
Room are always clean and serviced well
Comfy beds and pillows
No queues at check-in or check-out
Pool area and Gym pretty good
Parking usually OK pretty close to reception
Irons all work which is actually unusual for a Hilton

So, why only three stars

No aircon and heating from radiators not consistent. Can be difficult to get warm or cool.
Breakfast mostly OK, but coffee is poured and staff never on alert for refills.
Rest of food really sucks, even for a Hilton.
Pool often far to hot for serious swimming.
Spread out, some room really are miles from reception areas.
Slow internet whick is OK if free with hhonors but a real rip off if you pay for it.
Restricted TV channel selection, doesn't even cover full range of freeview.

So, sort of OK if on expenses and desperate for hhonors points, otherwise don't expect too much.

What a great place to stay.... We got a fab deal through Lastminute.com "Top Secret Hotels"; We have done this before and we think this will be the way to do it always... We booked Deluxe Double and requested for twin rooms either near-by or connecting as we had our "Children" (18 & 22 !); these were given to us across the corridor; Why we cant have family rooms in this country is beyond me...
Everything was clean, tidy and delightful!!
The Gym, Spa, Sauna and Swimming pool were never busy at one time we had it to ourselves; One slight niggle here is the Saunas are just as you go into the changing rooms so they are Male and Female; which when we go away we like to do this sort of stuff together but it didn't worry us much...Oh and the hairdryers are a bit ..um.. slow...lol
Our rooms should have had bathrobes it didn't really bother us, if we were there for longer we may have asked.
The breakfast... absolutely Fabulous!! Loads of choice loads to eat if one wanted it...

Bar prices... high!! Which you do expect when staying in somewhere so nice, we would probably take our own wine next time....

Room Tip: One over looking Golf Course...
