Often eaten here - breakfast and evening meal - and always liked it. Had a wonderful room on 2nd floor. We sat on the bed and watched the sun set over the Malvern Hills with nothing but sky, hills and greenery visible through the window.
Breakfast excellent as usual.

The pub was lovely, with really friendly staff - lovely beer garden, plenty of space in the bar areas.
The hotel area was quirky, and interesting. Those old wonky floors that make you feel like you're on a ship when you're walking down the corridors. And a bit of history with the medieval hall as a central walkway to some rooms.
The family room we had was beautiful. A king bed with two singles, ample room, beautifully decorated.
Only problem was, we were there as a family with a 7 yr old and a 10 yr old - in a room above the bar..... far too noisy on many occasions, thankfully for us, we'd been delayed in traffic for a number of hours, so didn't arrive until 10.30, and the chatting was completely quiet by 11.20.
Would stay again, but may be without the kids this time so that we can enjoy the pub for what it is and not be bothered by the noise, as we would be part of it!!

Everytime we go into Tewkesbury we always end up going into the royal hop pole. The drinks are brilliant and the food is great value for money. The beer garden is fantastic because of the view of the river avon and the atmosphere is great too. The only negative is that inside it's quite dark in places and in the one seated area you can`t pick up the wifi. Also, my grandparents have stopped in the hotel overnight and said the rooms were very clean and the service was excellent.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, Its great to hear that you pay us a visit when you're in the area, and that your grandparents enjoyed their stay here. Although Wifi is throughout the bar area, due to the nature of the building, there are some areas that have better signal than others - just ask a member of staff, they will happily advise where is best to sit for a stronger signal! Many Thanks

Having been here many times, I can confidently say that on the whole the bar service and helpfulness of the staff is very good. The ale is well kept and at a good price and on most occasions spirit/mixers are served correctly. The attention of some staff is certainly better than others, but overall very good.
The food is good for the money and has been served to us quickly and hot.
The building is fantastic and the garden looks out across the river and views beyond.
It would be nice if management would address the bad language that can come from congregated groups of lads by the bar/fruit machines on occasions, but sadly you get this everywhere these days. If in the town, worth an ale!

Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. My room was admittedly small (unsurprisingly, in such an historic building), but otherwise perfect; and quiet, none of the noise you can get when staying above a pub. Location is virtually in the town centre and on the river Avon.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side away from the beer garden are quieter, though it will only be an issue for very ea...

Visited Tewksbury and wanted somewhere to get a meal and drink. Came across Wetherspoons lodge, The Royal Hop Pole and wow, what a find. With the weather hitting @ 19 degrees we decided to sit out in the beer garden and this made our day. Sitting there lapping up the sunshine, the food, the drink with a fantastic view of the Malvern hills staring you in the face. Will certainly be visiting again to make sure we were not dreaming.

We have stayed at this hotel three times before, my wife wanted a birthday break here and so it was our fourth stay. The hotel has been wonderfully refurbished but retains many original features. The gallery on the upper floor is well worth a visit. The room was well appointed and had a very comfortable bed and provides bottled water and the usual tea and coffee. As others have said the staff from Receptionist through to the bar staff are really first class and seem to really enjoy working here, unlike my own local JDW. No matter how busy the bar gets you are quickly served with a smile. For a relaxing break in a first class JDW hotel this has to be visited, and we will again soon.

Room Tip: Front rooms are not that noisy as there is little traffic at night, rooms overloking the garden can...

This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished.
