We found this Wetherspoon run hotel/ bar/ restaurant ideally located in the centre of Tewksbury.
The staff were great, the prices loikewise, and the food better than other wetherspoons we've been to.
It is such a great building, beams, open fire, have an explore upstairs in the hotel part, its amazing
When we come back to tewksbury we are going to stay here, so will review the hotel side then

Stayed for new year , friendly staff , great room , a wet time outside but nice ,warm & dry inside !!
Location excellent for exploration. Hotel has great character .Free parking is directly behind the hotel and reception will give you a permit to put on your dashboard. The pub was surprisingly quiet for new year but maybe the weather had a say in the matter.

Room Tip: ask reception to advise, we originally were booked into a twin but got a double with more space ,tha...

Centrally located in town, ideal for exploring Tewkesbury & surrounding area. There is parking at the rear which is free as long as you get a ticket from reception. The reception staff were very friendly & efficient. We had a room on the first floor facing the main street which was spacious, clean & very peaceful.
The pub has been carefully & tastefully decorated mixing old & new well. It's typical Wetherspoons otherwise, good choice of beers, typical pub food all good value for money. There is plenty of choice in the town if you fancy different food.
We didn't go on a special deal, just normal price which I think was average for the standard provided. Having said that, I would return to the Hop Pole in the future.

Room Tip: A room facing the front means no noise from revellers in the smoking area.

This hotel has a great position in the centre of town and like all Wetherspoon’s pubs, there’s a unique history about the place. In this case, there’s a restored medieval hall within the structure. Saying that, the whole place is packed with old architectural features inclusive of a wonderful old fireplace in the cosy lounge.

Free parking is directly behind the hotel and reception will give you a permit to put on your dashboard. The pub can get very busy in the evenings and is particularly popular with the younger generation, but there’s always a good atmosphere.

Unfortunately, our room wasn’t quite so good. Situated at the top of the building it was cramped and tatty and at least in need of complete redecoration. I can’t understand why such basic ideas like fitting a shade over a bare light bulb seems so difficult to grasp!!

Food was typically Wetherspoon’s so it will never win any awards, but at least it was reasonably priced.

Bearing in mind the cost of the stay, I would say it was fair value overall.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room. Smaller ones are too cramped.

Excellent value for money in a typical Wetherspoons environment. Very busy and friendly hotel where the food and ale were top class. The location of the hotel is on the main street through the town and close to the shops and other pubs.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor are nearest to the bar!

Lovely old hotel. Room spotless. All staff - receptionists, bar staff, waiters and cleaning staff very efficient, helpful and pleasent. We really enjoyed our stay. There was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the bar. There is also free car parking at the rear of hotel.

Visited numerous times to this very special place. Wetherspoons have done a splendid job on this historic hotel. Love the rooms which are rustic and cosy. The walk on the Severn Ham is great, just 5 minutes walk away, the Ham is a large open space of grass common land. Also, a lovely antiques emporium in an old chapel just down the street. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the back, you can see the Abbey and the Ham from your window.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
