The centre of Tewkesbury, like other Gloucestershire towns, is no place for foodies - at least at lunchtime - if our recent experience is anything to go by. Perhaps we should have realized that the Bay Tree was not a promising option when we entered to find one other customer sitting over a pot of tea and no serving staff in evidence. The menu's claim that everything was cooked on the premises was completely undermined by the arrival of a 3663 driver who duly delivered a number of packages. Presumably these contained items like the two tasteless pies we had unwisely ordered, one of which, a cottage pie which the restaurant claims is its most popular dish, had about three inches of mashed potato atop the smallest amount of meat imaginable, and of the texture of baby food. The staff seemed vaguely surprised that anyone should want to eat there. Avoid at all costs.
