100% DISAGREE with the review below. I do not usually contribute to tripadvisor, but having seen the last review, I felt I would have to reply!

We spent a Friday and Saturday night at Hardwick House with a group of friends. We received fantastic service for the whole weekend - Breakfasts cooked to order just the way you want it, local restaurants and taxis recommended and booked, a bucket of ice provided to chill the drinks whilst lying around by the pool..... there was nothing that was too much trouble.

The garden at Hardwick House makes this a fantastic summer weekend break. What better than a game of cricket on the lawn, followed by a swim in the pool and then finding a shady spot beneath a tree to read the weekend papers? Perfect!

The issue about the communal area in the review below is pretty odd. Rob, the owner, was at pains to tell us on arrival that we could use any area of the house that we wanted - and we did. If Rob and Ruth's little girls are using the pool table - all you have to do is ask and they will gladly make way! Never did we feel like we were in the way of the family.

All in all - I would defi recommend Hardwick House. Came away feeling it was great value for money and a lovely spot for a weekend break.

I have to say that our stay at Hardwick House was everything that we needed. I arranged a stag group of 15 people and we took over the entire house (with no complaints from the hugely accomodating hosts, Rob and Ruth). We used the house as our base for the weekend and were afforded free reign of the majority of the house (private residence aside), the huge games room, the expansive gardens and the pool.

The bedrooms were all spacious, clean and had private flat screen TVs, stocked fridges and towells.

The food was all cooked to order (which for 15 lads is some feat!) and without fuss and the hosts asked for nothing more than for us to take care of their property.

Highly recommended if you're looking to take over a stunning country house for a weekend.

This is a place where you feel that the owners want your money but not want to accommodate you in any way. There was a definite lack of customer service.
Breakfast service took 2 hours and came out individually - the communal areas were only available if the family did not want to use them. And if they did you were relegated to the patio.
The family have internal staircases but if you want to go upstairs from the basement (where some of the bedrooms were) you have to walk around the outside of the house.
All in all I would recommend this house as you will only feel in the way of the family that live there…

We found this review both insulting and suspicious (in terms of motive). This lady clearly has some sort of chip on her shoulder about the hen weekend she attended which she did not voice to our faces when here. Other members of the same party have been moved to write their own reviews contradicting her nasty and vindictive comments.

We are at a loss to understand why she felt unable to use the communal areas when everyone else in the party were able to. The beautician we organised for the group even set herself up in the drawing room for the Saturday morning. We pride ourselves on the customer service we provide to our guests and to my knowledge we have never yet said "no" to anybody making any reasonable request. We hope that all the other reviews on here will convince you that this reviewer truly is the exception that proves the rule.

The reviewer does make a fair point about the internal staircase from the basement. The no-expense-spared Lower Ground Apartment refurbishment was only completed a few weeks prior to this party's visit and the staircase led up to little better than a building site, hence our request that guests go round the outside of the house and in through the main entrance. This situation has now been rectified and Lower Ground guests now have full access using the internal staircase.

As for the comments about us "only being interested in the money" we spent several months communicating with various members of the group in order to organise activities for them to make the weekend perfect, including a beautician for facials and manicures, booking the restaurant for the Saturday night, arranging taxis and even looking at horse riding for some guests. This is the level of service all of our guests can rightfully expect from us. We invite the reader to decide whether they feel £45 per person per night is excessive for such personal service and exclusive use of a five-acre estate.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our other guests for their messages of support and encouragement in the face of this person's unwarranted attack on our reputation, but we guess it "comes with the territory".
