The food here wont blow you away as amazing Mexcian food, but the 2 for 1 fajita night is definitely worth it in terms of value for money.

Wow. Having changed hands recently, Mexxa Mexxa has officially died a death. It looks to have been taken over by some people who have no experience of running a restaurant before, and having given it two chances, its now off the list.

Food - Awful in both quality and quantity.
Drink - Not stocked, and what they did have wasn't ready for service. My girlfriend was told that she'd "have to be alright with some ice in her prosecco as there was none in the fridge"
Service - Slow & incompetent. In the end we went to The Brenchley (recently Opened in the old Natwest Business Banking Centre at the top of Bank Street).

Its a shame but my best advice would be to give Mexxa a swerve, and with the only alternatives being Chimichanga or Buddha Belly, if you're looking for Mexican - You'll need to leave town.

They got 1 out of five as 0 doesn't appear to be an option.

Went here for a 2 course meal, food was bland and tasteless, and knocked up! Felt dark and dirty in there. Definitely gone down hill, friendly staff, needs a total revamp and new chef who knows how to keep customers coming back, the other reviews prove im not alone!

I went to Mexxa Mexxa with my partner, his family and a friend on 2nd February for lunch. It was to celebrate my partner's dad's 60th birthday early, as my partner will be away on business on the day. It was absolutely awful.

Where do I start? The Groupon menu was on scruffy A4 printouts, and quite a few of the items on the menu were not available, as apparently Saturday night had been very busy. I note that other reviews on here say that the restaurant was very quiet for a Saturday night, so it seems that on top of everything else, the staff lied to us.

The waitress who served us didn't seem to know what was going on; she told us several dishes weren't available and when members of the party tried to order alternatives, she said that they weren't available either. Two members of the party ordered fajitas. One large sizzling platter was put on the table; and the waitress explained ten minutes later that it was meant to be shared between two people. They were sitting at opposite ends of the table! It was only when a member of our party explained that they had ordered two meals, so expected two separate plates of food that she tried to rectify the situation.

The service was awful- members of the party actually had to go over to the bar to ask staff to serve us, as they were standing around talking! There was only one other table in at the time.

The Groupon deal included tequila, but they didn't have any. It was only when we asked where our tequilas were that they said they were out of stock. They were also out of Mexican beer, and coffee, which was nothing short of bizarre.

So, what was meant to be a special occasion was ruined by Mexxa Mexxa. We won't be returning!

We have been to Mexxa Mexxa before and liked it so we didn't think to check any reviews before our most recent visit on 1st February - if we had, we would have changed our minds!! Alarm bells rang immediately when we arrived as the restaurant was very empty for a Saturday night and the staff couldn't find our booking. They asked us to go upstairs but we didn't get seated by the waitress and had to find the table ourselves.

Once we had the menu (printed on an A4 sheet of paper), we noticed quite a few dishes were not available and crossed out with a pen which was odd. It was also about this time we heard the manager shouting at the waitresses and another table getting up to leave without ordering. We should have left at this point.

Instead we decided to see it through and ordered our drinks, some Stella (seemingly the only beer on tap), a glass of wine and some sparkling water. What we received was 3 beers, a glass of what tasted like fruit juice or watered down wine and a plastic bottle of water.

We ordered our starters and main and sat down to be entertained by waitresses running around not having a clue, the manager shouting at his staff and a lot of noise and shouting coming from the kitchen. Two of our starters arrived, both plates of nachos with barely any cheese or salsa topping, but the third starter didn't arrive for another 15 minutes and when it did, the small excuse for garlic bread looked like it had been warmed in a microwave rather than grilled/toasted and was limp and rather pathetic looking.

Our mains weren't much better, the fajitas were okay except for a lack of cheese and very odd looking runny salsa. The burrito was soggy and not very tasty and the rest of the food was rather bland.

The restaurant was also lacking in some general maintenance, a light nearby was hanging off the wall, the gents toilets were dark and the decor in desperate need of updating.

The staff clearly knew what was going on and were constantly apologising (which got quite annoying after a while) and several tables nearby didn't get what they ordered or left quite quickly. The atmosphere was not good and it is definitely not somewhere I would go again or recommend to anyone. We were very disappointed.
