Description: Now open in Maidstone High Street (opposite The Muggleton Inn). Opened in November 2013, as a traditional free-house, The Brenchley offers a vast range of popular beers, wines, spirits, seasonal & guest real ales, along with an affordable food menu (group bookings welcome), speedy service and traditional pub opening times... And it's proven to be a real hit with the people of Maidstone. Some of you will be familiar with the old NatWest & Kentish Bank building. The Kentish Bank was founded in 1793 and built by John Brenchley. Now the building has been lovingly transformed into Maidstone's newest traditional pub. We have sympathetically restored this beautiful building to its former grandeur, complete with its solid oak columns & panelling, ornate cornice and best of all, its stunning huge glass ceiling dome

“Good food and drink at sensible prices.”

Great for a quick meal and drinks at very sensible prices.

Not sure that I would want to spend an entire Saturday evening there but maybe that's not the point.

“Great Atmosphere.”

Conviently situated when shopping for lunch or just a coffee. Great feeling about the place and cannot help but admire the fantastic glass domed ceiling and the lovely panelled walls. staff pleasant and helpful, and food and drink reasonably priced. Ideal place to relax when in town shopping.

“Poor Food, Average Service”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

Very disappointed by my visit here, food was poorly cooked and i ended up leaving most of it (i had the ribs). Even my starter (Nachos) was a complete sham, they seemed to give me a bowl with the remaining crumbs of nachos caked in sauce.... poor effort

“Great Brenchley burger!”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

Having discovered The Brenchley on a visit to Maidstone earlier this year, we weren't disappointed on our second visit on Saturday June 7. This converted bank is a grand place to dine (ornate columns, magnificent dome, raised platform seating flanking either side of the high-ceiling, spacious dining area) - we like the view from 'Table 1', it's good for people-watching!

There's a nice mix of diners, meal choice and drinks. We again opted for the £8 Brenchley burger - an 8oz burger with bacon and blue cheese dressing, which comes with onion rings, potato wedges and a slice of garlic bread. It was scrummy and extremely filling. (The family next to us had the English breakfast - not a bean left on any plate.)

The wait staff are efficient and although tables are cleared promptly, we didn't feel obliged to leave .... besides, we were too full and comfortable and happy to chat and people-watch for a further hour.

I have and will continue to recommend this venue. Go in and have a drink and see for yourself!

“Must revisit quality of food served”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

I agree with previous reviewer I wish I had visited wether spoons instead... Chicken and chips was just about edible burnt skin and dry as a bone and my sausage and mash was served in a bowl the majority of which was mash potatoe it's a shame because the inside of the building is very ornate and spacious - plenty of seats -the bar looks impressive with bottles displayed but that's it if you are looking for a nice meal don't visit here but if you just want to quench your thirst then sits fine
