Description: Using the best fresh and organic produce that Kent has to offer, Turning Tables has brought the farm shop restaurant concept to Maidstone. From English and continental breakfasts and high-quality coffees to hearty farmhouse-style mains and indulgent puddings, Turning Tables has something for every time of day. Its traditional Sunday roasts with seasonal vegetables are also well worth discovering.

“NOT TOO GOOD”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We had eaten here once before and enjoyed a very good meal so decided to return with some friends as it had been so good. Unfortunately this time we were badly let down and will not return again as it's proven to be too hit and miss.
We asked for an advertised beer, that was ''off'. We wanted fish and chips, that was 'off'. When asked what the soup of the day was the waitress didn't have a clue and had to ask, surely she should have known that before even starting work.
We ordered the beef with mashed potato after our starters, and it arrived within 60 seconds, along with all the other mains. This could only mean that it had been sitting under a heat lamp ready to go and was that confirmed by the dry crust on the mash and luke warm food. The beef had been cooked out of existence and lost any texture it once had, very similar to baby food and a real shame. Our friends had mussels that, although well cooked, had been ruined by overly powerful chilli, such a shame for those delicate little mussels.
We used a Groupon deal on this trip and found that not just the quality was poor but the portions on both starters and mains were a lot smaller, maybe no bad thing with food of this quality, but an obvious sign of money pinching.
Overall, a real shame as this place can turn out a reasonable meal, but not a place I'd want to try again given the inconsistencies here.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

I first visited this restaurant last April when I enjoyed my meal; however, on this occasion, I again ordered battered cod, chips and mushy peas and was disappointed at the quality of preparation and presentation. The chips were very large, under-done on the inside and blackened on the outside - quite an achievement which I attribute to cooking the chips in fat which was too hot but I am no cook so probably should not attempt to diagnose the reason.
I asked for a small glass of Merlot but was informed that they would only serve a 175ml glass (the middle size) but no explanation was forthcoming as to why I could not buy a 125ml glass of wine. I am almost certain that this was not a problem in April so perhaps there has been a change of owner.
I should have been warned by the fact that the restaurant was virtually empty. There appeared to be 3 chefs who were standing around chatting. Also, at one stage I detected a strong smell of cigarette smoke. Where this came from I have no idea but it served to make a poor meal even worse for me.

“Excellent !”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

What a lovely restaurant , friendly staff, great decor all mis matched furniture and quirky bits and pieces but the star was the food, beautifully cooked and presented. Give the usual high street chains a miss and give TurningTables a try the prices are comparable but the food is MUCH better!

“A lovely find!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Staying overnight in Maidstone ready for channel tunnel crossing in the morning. This restaurant was a really great find. Quirky decor, wonderful food, excellent service. Just on the High Street - easy to find. Do try and visit, you won't be disappointed.
