“Slightly overpriced for what you get...”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

I need to preface this by saying that there was nothing REALLY wrong with this hotel...but given the reviews previously seen on here I expected more. We were there to attend a tribute night show...so rather than have one of us drive, we booked a room with breakfast.
The welcome was efficient...no more...not particularly friendly.
The rooms are comfortable enough if you're only staying one night...somewhere to lay your head with a good bed and adequate facilities. My first moan was the cleanliness of the room. I admit to being a "clean freak", particularly when it comes to bathrooms. Whilst the majority of the surfaces were clean (bath, sink toilet) the walls, vents, ceiling etc were all marked with stains, cobwebs, thick dust etc that had clearly been there a long time...so attention to detail by the housekeeping crew and inspection of their work by management is not very good.
The food served at the function was typical of the occasion...just about warm enough but not tasting of very much. The "red wine jus" that accompanied the pale, bland chicken had never seen any wine...I suspect it was gravy granules. The "Vanilla Cheesecake" had similarly never seen any vanilla...it was totally tasteless, and I (not known for turning down food on any occasion) couldn't eat it.
Drinks were typical hotel prices, but to their credit the Victory bar has some fantastic ales.
Breakfast the next day was a diffferent matter...probably the best breakfast I have ever had in a "chain" hotel. Really good quality food.

Room Tip: Go for the quality room...not the basic one...and make sure you are not in a room 148-160...they fac...

We stayed at this Hotel because we were attending a Winters ball on the premises.

The room was nice, clean and pretty typical of this type of hotel, shower was great.
bed was a king and comfortable with 4 pillows.
Food at the ball was very nice, well served and the staff very organised.
We did not use the gym and swimming pool etc but they looked very good.
Hotel is very close to a river that provides a nice walk next to the wier and a pub next to it.
Breakfast was very nice with papers provided.
We would not hesitate to book into this hotel.

We stayed as a family in the hotel, got a deal through spa breaks website. We had an easy check in and went straight to the gym and pool. The gym was very big with lots of machines and a power plate. The pool had 3 lanes and the steam/sauna were very relaxing. We then had dinner in the verve grill restaurant where the food was very tasty and the waitress was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We also had an after dinner cocktail in the bar. Overall this was a nice relaxing night in a clean hotel. Highly recommended for gym and pool users. It wasn't luxury but we didn't expect that for the price.

Not stayed at this hotel before and so didn`t know what to expect. Room and bathroom was clean and warm. Extra coffee given when asked for. pool and facilities were really clean and best jet I`ve experienced in the jacuzzi. The breakfast was hot and fresh and a variety of goods.

Will use this hotel again if staying near family.

Room Tip: We had a standard room and it was adequate for our needs. No loose shampoos etc but dispencer.

Stayed for one night and was really impressed with the hotel. We arrived early (11.30) and asked if we could deposit our luggage whilst we went sightseeing. Our room was already ready so we booked in straight away.

The hotel is in a great location and was very busy all the time we were there. We didn't use the leisure facilities but dud use the cafe, bar and restaurant. The food and drinks were lovely but the service was quite slow.

Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Some biscuits with the tea and coffee would have been nice though!

I would definitely revisit this hotel.

We recently stayed at this hotel after being invited to a wedding elsewhere in Maidstone. When my friend (brother of the bride) told me this is where they were staying, it was in the ballpark of £80/night. When we booked a few weeks before the wedding, it had rocketed to £140/night. I mentioned the wedding party, but they were unaware of it, so the only deal they were able to offer included an evening meal for £120. As we were at the wedding in the evening, they said we could have the lunchtime carvery on the day of departure instead.
On the morning of the wedding/arrival, I had a quick look at their website, and the room rate had dropped down to the original price. I called to cancel, but they said it was a non-refundable room. Not happy.

Upon arrival, front desk staff were very polite and helpful, although they did try to charge us an extra £10 for requesting an early check-in (normal time is 3pm). They did kindly drop this charge when I said it wasn't pointed out to me when booking, but I find this charge a little offensive because of their rather late checking in time policy. Parking was easy, the car park was on several levels and was huge. Unless you have heavy bags, don't bother with the lift though as it's painfully slow - it's several light years quicker to use the stairs (whilst also getting a little exercise) than it is to wait for what feels like forever for the damned thing to arrive!

The room was very clean and quite spacious, it looked like it had been recently refurbished. However, I was very surprised (especially with the prices that they were charging) that it didn't have air conditioning. Instead, a noisy fan was sat in the corner of the room which quite happily rattled away all night recirculating warm air. The room did come with a range of additional features, including a trouser press and iron & ironing board. There was a TV too.

The shower maintained pressure and temperature very well, although it was a fixed head on the wall rather than being on the end of a flexible hose.

We woke up to the smell of cigarette smoke. This is because we left the window open to try and get some cool and fresh air into the hot room. Unfortunately, as we were almost directly above reception, it meant that the early morning smokers were standing right outside and smoking, which then rose and stunk out our room. So we then had to close the window and put up with the heat, which was the lesser of the two evils. I think they should have had a smoking area on the far side of the car park so that non smokers are not affected in their rooms.

Breakfast was pretty amazing. It was buffet style, both hot and cold. There were sausages, fried and scrambled eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, etc. available in the hot section, as well as the usual cereals, fruit and toast etc. in the cold section. For the extra £5pp over the room-only rate, this was exceptional value for money.

There was free wifi available, although I didn't notice this until after checking out. Mind you, it wasn't high on my list of priorities.

True to their word, they did allow us to have the lunchtime carvery instead of the evening meal. This was equally as impressive in quality as the breakfast.

In summary, it's a good, clean and comfortable hotel with polite and helpful staff, but is let down by the lack of air conditioning and extortionate room pricing. I'm uncertain whether the pricing problem is because of the close proximity to the motorway or the snob factor of being on the outskirts of the County Town of Kent. Or a bit of both, as the Premierinn next door was only a few quid cheaper.

Room Tip: 1.) If like us, you hate the smell of cigarette smoke, ensure you ask for a room that isn't at...
