“Beautiful place”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

We only spent one night here but would have liked to have stayed longer if we could. The rooms are lovely and big, comfortable with a bath as well as separate shower in the bathroom. The radiators really belt out heat so we had them turned really low. And of course the surrounding grounds are wonderful. It was so good to open the curtains in the morning to a view of the grounds.

The breakfast was nice. The only negative was that it was a bit cold in the The Fairfax and so the coffee went cold quickly. I would advise asking them to heat the milk.

The only real drawback is that there is no restaurant in the evening. They do supply a list of eating places near by but it's not quite so convenient if you don't have a car, like us. Staff kindly looked after our luggage on the day we checked out so we could enjoy the estate unencumbered.

Checking out time is 10am, which we think is a bit early especially as the castle didn't open until 10.30. This was fine when we were there because it happened to be one of the warmest days we've had so far this year. If it had been raining it could have been a bit miserable.

We would definitely stay here again. It's a great B&B in a beautiful and tranquil place.

Would definitely recommend this accommodation. It is a bit pricey but includes the visit to the lovely castle and grounds. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated and the breakfast in the Fairfax Restaurant included everything you could want, well cooked English breakfast, pastries, fruit etc. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The views from our room and restaurant were spectacular. One of the nicest places we have stayed and worth every penny.

Room Tip: We had room No 10 which had two windows with lovely views. The Culpepper garden was right outside o...

This is a stunning place to stay. You can visit the castle's grounds upon you stay and take some lovely photographs. We had a relaxing time here even in the Winter seasons. I love the English Heritage sites and the history that goes with these sites.

My husband and I booked three nights at the Stable Courtyard. Our room was absolutely lovely. Very clean and tidy, huge bed, lovely bedding (so comfortable), sofa, TV, tea, coffee and biscuits which were topped up every day. Entrance to the castle was included in the price of our stay, so we went twice. Also taking in the maze and the grotto, and the falconry display (despite the weather!). Our room was walking distance (seconds) to the restaurant for our breakfast, which was included, and was absolutely delicious. Plenty of choice from a traditional cooked breakfast, to cereals, pastries, yogurts and fresh fruit. As well as hot toast, tea and coffee. All that whilst overlooking the glorious castle! Every member of staff we spoke to were very friendly, polite and so helpful. For our evening meals we ate at the Parkgate Inn just further up the road and the food was lovely. Also ate at The Black Horse at Thurnham, which was also a lovely meal and great atmosphere. We would not hesitate to recommend the Stable Courtyard to friends and family for a lovely getaway. We can't wait to go back, but maybe when it's a bit warmer!

Room Tip: We were given Room 8 which maybe a bit bigger, not sure, as we were there for three nights. We coul...

The stable courtyards have been turned into rooms where you could enjoy the peace and quiet of the Kent countryside. Arriving after sunset, we were treated to an excellent night time view of the castle, brightly illuminated and with an eerie spooky mist above the moat. The rooms were pleasantly decorated, with a small LCD TV on the wall, tea/coffee making facilities, free wifi, complimentary bottles of water, and toiletries. However, the bed was a bit too firm for our liking. It is only in the morning that we could see the beauty of the gardens and the surrounding grounds, which we explored after a hearty breakfast in the Fairfax Hall restaurant. Castle entry was included Highly recommended for a unique experience.

I came here for two nights in February with my (now) fiancee; the whole thing was perfect. I can't recommend it enough - beautiful surroundings, really good room - all in all couldn't be better. The one thing that really stood out was that we had access to the entire castle grounds before and after-hours, so we had lots of time to explore just the two of us.

Booked with an amex card through the hotel website (which uses booking.com). Received an email saying booking confirmed. Received a second email saying hotel doesn't take amex after all , no apology, booking not confirmed. Tried to contact hotel, no reply, booked elsewhere. Tried to cancel but told by Booking.com that I was liable for the whole cost of the room. Many emails and calls later I was able to avoid payment, but wished I'd stayed well clear in the first place.
