“Brilliant room, eat elsewhere.”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This hotel was easy to find and, for the money we paid for 2 nights, good enough. The room was really clean, well laid out and with everything we needed for a couple of nights. Thje view from our room (105) was overlooking the GUC and the barges parked up. It really did look great and was something we didn't expect, so we were really pleased. Our experience of the hotel room was excellent, possibly the quietest hotel room we have stayed in. We never heard anyone, at any time. The bed was comfortable and warm. Really pleased.
The rest of the hotel grounds and areas need a damn good clean, there is litter everywhere and the good old smokers add to the aroma as you transit from the hotel to the next door pub. Clearly, the pub area has seen better days, indeed we discussed this with a guy who has visited for years. Finally, the food is poor. Don't eat here! The staff in the eating area of the pub are understaffed, and responsible for to many tables. The chef had phoned in sick on the first morning meaning the other guy was working under immense pressure, it showed in the food he produced. Overall, the manager needs to get a grip of the staffing in the eating department and get someone to clean up outside. We would stay again, the room was great, we will eat elsewhere though. We have rated this hotel based on the hotel, the hotel staff and the room. The pub next door and the food would be lucky to get an average.

Just stayed the one night and would stay again. Room was of a fair size with a good comfortable bed. Although there is no air conditioning the room provided a fan. Plenty of parking with a crown carvery attached for food. Good outlook of the canal and barges with wifi being free. If you need to stay local would totally recommend.

Room Tip: Ask to look over the canal, odd numbers.

Need to get your head down then Peartree Lodge is absolutely fine. If you're after something with a touch more exotic then look elsewhere. The are, on this side of the canal, is tired and just a little dirty. Crossing over the canal I'll come back to.

Drive into the car park and your spidey senses will begin to tingle, from the outside it looks like a motel with blue mood lighting, ahem!, lighting the outside. I started to feel like this wasn't going to go well. And entering the well worn reception area did nothing to lighten my growing anxiety.

Now, never judge a book and all that. The receptionist and her sidekick, don't know what this other lady did, was excellent. Clear, efficient and helpful. Got my key and off to the room.

Basic. Not that this is a bad 'basic' but basic. The bed however was huge and of all the hotels I've stayed in recently, I have to admit that this was the most comfortable bed and provided me with the best nights sleep I've had in a while.

The bathroom...let's just move on. Clean? Showerhead...went everywhere but on me...I'd have gotten wetter had I stood next to the tv...everywhere but down. Oh and no fancy shampoo bottles to put in my washbag! What's that all about.

For eats the hotel is connected to a tired beef-eater type pub thing which was heaving with diners eager to get a humongous carvery for £6. So I ordered a drink and settled in for meat and veg.

After dinner, and here's my best tip, leave the hotel and go for a walk. Nearby there's a canal bridge. Over the canal and you'll walk out into a large open green area called Woughton. Keep walking, this hamlet is glorious and I do mean glorious. The green is bordered by large well kept houses and at the far end there's a quaint looking pub, though I didn't get chance to go in. If you do take a torch, there's good advice #2. No street lights, you'll trip over stuff walking back to the hotel.

In summary, everyone that worked at the hotel were lovely; they're let down by the drive to the hotel, the car park screams Hitchcock's Psycho (sorry hotel it just does) coupled to the blue mood lighting. Once inside you're fine and fortunately they didn't have anyone working there called Norman or Bates.

Room Tip: 108 had a magnificent bed...really comfortable.

Stayed here last Saturday night, and it was fantastic value for money. The rooms are really nicely furnished and the bed was really comfortable. There was everything there that you needed, and we had a room overlooking the Marina, so the views of all the canal boats was a lovely bonus.
I would highly recommend this hotel for its value and location, it is afterall only 5 mins drive into central Milton Keynes.

Room Tip: Ask for an odd number room on the first floor for best views of Marina

We wanted a room for the weekend and usually we pick well known brands. What attracted us was the photos and for a change the photos really do reflect this excellent hotel.

There is plenty of parking and the location the bar and restaurant is perfect. Food and drink is very reasonably priced.

The receptionist was one of the best we've come across. Very polife and courteous.

The room itself is reasonably sized. A very comfortable bed, large screen television, noisy fan, tea and coffee making facilities and a well appointed bathroom. It's a shame that the shower head clamp was broken but that didn't mar the experience.

One word of warning - try to get a room as far from the bar. We were serenaded into late Saturday night by the karaoke torture of classics.

We are definitely going to make a return visit.

We booked two nights at Peartree Lodge as the setting and rooms looked great on their website. We are actually on our second night now. On arrival the receptionist was friendly and helpful. We had a groundfloor room 106 , the room itself is spacious with lovely bed and good sized flatscreen tv, there was also a great added extra of a fan as we are experiencing a heatwave so this was invaluable. The bathroom had a lovely shower and was a good size. The wifi was free and worked well but as with most hotels the room was short of electricity sockets, bearing in mind most people now travel with mobile phones, computer tablets and laptops. We travel up and down the country on business trips but this was purely leisure so some information about the area, hotel and the eatery next door would have been helpful in the room. We had a meal in the Peartree Lodge pub next door on the first evening, my wife cant eat much so they happily did her just a starter, I had the all you can eat carvery which was very good indeed. While I appreciate it is a carvery pub I think the menu is very limited and would encourage guests staying more than one night to try other places nearby for added choice. The scenery by the hotel and eatery is wonderful , by the canal and the barges. The walks along the canal are beautiful and relaxing and it is overall close to Milton Keynes Centre. The only disappointment for us has happened tonight when we just wanted to relax and look out the window to find that despite there being spaces in the carpark we had two cars, one after the other park right outside our window, the second car , a red convertible bmw has literally just left after over an hour, it might not be a big issue to some but surely its a case of manners, we wouldnt dream of doing this to anyone staying at a hotel. Then I just went to the pub next door as although we brought juice with us it is so hot that it is warm to the taste, I was then told the pub has run out of ice and the orange drink I bought in there wasnt cold either. I know that guests are encouraged to purchase food and drink next door they often bring some with them especially if like us there is a diabetic among them so a small fridge would be such a welcome edition to the room especially this year when the weather is so hot. Overall though we would stay here again but would hope the owners would put double yellow lines under the rooms in the carpark. If it wasnt for the few hiccups mentioned then this would be a five star review.

Booked the hotel through late rooms at £49 instead of the advertised price of £70.
Check in was polite and efficient.
The lodge has recently been refurbished and the room was very pleasant with a large bed, flat screen and modern decoration. The bathroom was very clean and had everything required.
The lodge was purely functional which is what I like for a stopover.
2 comments, no hair dryer and no guest information in the room.
Free wi-fi.
Free parking.
Overall score would be 4.5

Room Tip: Choose a room upstairs overlooking the marina
