“Basic, outdated accomodation - noisy!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Stayed here second time within 5 yrs and won't be back. We had booked 2 rooms ( family with 2 kids) - rooms are very basic and outdated, one bathroom's sink would only offer HOT water. Noise from any guests walking above and slamming doors, almost depressive room. Also basic would not spend again the money allocated for two small outdated rooms and stay somewhere else. Service rather pragmatic - even as Platinum priority Club member only basic ONE ITEM/room internet password for free, additional passwords (family of 4) at 5.00 Pound/24hr.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to leave us this constructive review, we value that they take time to write and especially those which we can learn from.

I am disappointed to see that your stay with us was disrupted by the water heating/cooling and noisy guests. Our Maintenance team are continuously trying to ensure that all rooms and facilities are fault free and to a high standard that our guests expect and deserve.

We were all disappointed to read that you do not intend to return to this property and hope that you time with us has not put you off staying with other hotels within the brand.

Kind regards

I stayed here for a couple of nights while I looked for some longer-term accommodation in the area.

The hotel is clean and air conditioned (very welcome this month in particular). The staff are polite and helpful, the room was as expected: clean, firm mattress, tea and coffee, TV, shower large enough and powerful enough to wake you up in the morning. Breakfast was decent buffet style, hot and cold selection.

There is a Hungry Horse restaurant across the car park which serves predictable but decent food and drink.

The in-house WiFi was a little sporadic, but there is a pay-as-you-go connection in the lobby if you need to check your mails, etc.

I would recommend anyone trying to navigate through the myriad roundabouts that seem to in the area to try this place out, even if it's just to check their map over a cold drink.

We stayed here for a couple of nights during the recent heat wave. Thank heaven for air conditioning, especially as the window was of the now fashionable, maybe compulsory, type which only opens a few inches and thereby reduces escape options in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Our room was comfortable with a large bed, television and free WiFi.
The staff at the hotel were well trained and courteous throughout our visit.
The only disappointment was the breakfast. The selection of heated food consisted of tasteless sausages, duller than usual baked beans and a scrambled egg which would have had a good chance of being unrecognised as part of a Lego building. However, in fairness it should be pointed out that the many cold food items and hot drinks, would be considered adequate by most diners.
Strangely, trays were not provided, necessitating several spill-ridden slalom trips with drinks, cereal etcetera, negotiating the narrow access randomly mined by children and adults who bobbed around. Oh boy what a mess it all was. The dining room staff also had to weave through to use the single entry/exit to the kitchens.
The nearby "Harvester" restaurant was worth avoiding due in part to a total lack of traditional ales (insufficient storage room) as well as feeling cramped and stiflingly hot. The "Greet before you seat" gent appeared in a manner suggesting that he might soon try to sell you an insurance policy or a timeshare. He gleefully waved at the many empty tables whilst telling us how full the establishment would soon be. Get in your car, or hire a taxi and ask the driver to take you to a decent nearby hostelry / restaurant, or, find out what the hotel dinner fare is like. We did not learn about this facility until we were wading through our final plateful of lego, pale beans and sausages (meat variety still unknown).

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor near to the entry area as all guests will have to pass your door thereby ensuring...

Situated on the edge of Milton Keynes, this offers the usual "cut above budget" refinements of Holiday Inn Express. Nice room, which even though it was directly next to the bar / restaurant area didn't get too noisy. Very good amenities in room, excellent shower.

Location means there isn't much nearby bar a Harvester located opposite, which actually wasn't too bad for somewhere for dinner.

Breakfast was buffet arrangement, pretty good selection.

Booked a family room for myself, wife and 2 kids.

Room had flat screen tv, coffee making facilty, shower, hair dryer and A/C.

The A/C could have been stronger but would do for one night. Room didn't have a safe and tv channels were pretty limited.

Beds were one double and one pull out sofa.

The pull out sofa was not really safe for kids as the hinges etc all stuck out and could easily injure adults let alone kids.

With both beds in the room, there was not much other space in the room.

The room itself was clean and well kept as was the bathroom .

I did at one point ask for an ice bucket but was given a plastic tub, staff assured me it was dishwashed !

No real complaints. Staff were friendly and complimentary breakfast was ok but a bit limited.

Overall good hotel, no problems . Parking is right outside and a harvester pub is also just beyond the car park .

I was glad to see that you highlighted the cleanness of the hotel and the friendliness of our staff.

I was also pleased to see that you were offered an alternative ice bucket to use our guest ice machine due to the hotel's supply of ice buckets all been used due to the high temperatures of the weather during your stay rather then been offered nothing at all.

Thank you once again and we hope to welcome you back again at some point in the future.

I have stayed here a lot for work and pleasure and the staff are always really good, the hotel's bar and restaurant décor is still good, modern and comfortable but the rooms are now looking very dated and shabby especially when compared to Hiltons new offering to the market Hampton by Hilton, if only they had one in MK. The "free" breakfast is worse than ever, the muesli and muffins have gone, the toaster still burns the bread around the edge yet does not toast it properly in the middle and to make it even more awkward they have taken away the trays to carry your breakfast on, why?

Room Tip: If you are near the lifts move or buy some ear plugs.

Dear Tropez68

Thank you very much for sharing with us your experience of your recent stay in June 2013.

I was extremely happy to read the positive remarks made towards our staff, as well as the décor of the bar and restaurant.

I was saddened to read of your disappointment towards the décor of our bedrooms and I would like to assure you that we do have a rolling maintenance schedule to ensure that our bedrooms are well maintained and refreshed to ensure that all of our guests have a comfortable and pleasant stay with us.
With regards to your comments regarding some of the recent changes made to our complimentary breakfast, we are currently 1 of 6 hotels which are conducting a trial, which has seen us replace several products with higher quality alternatives. Another aspect of this trial has also seen the removal of the trays. This decision was taken following feedback from guests regarding queues in the breakfast area and the hope that with the removal of the trays this would speed up the breakfast experience for all our residents.

I would once again like to thank you for your feedback, and I hope that we are able to welcome you once more at the Holiday Inn Express, Milton Keynes.

Kind Regards

David
