“Friendly, good value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Called in on the off chance at 8:15 on a Sarurday night. Was welcomed warmly and found a table within 10 minutes. The menu was not stunning but had some good favourites. The only complaint was they only had one item left when four of us chose the same thing, so back to the menu. The food was nicely presented and of good quality. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Apparently the building was refurbished after a fire, it is nicely done and welcoming. Would return here again, would like to do lunch!!

“Consistently Good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

We have been dining at this pub/ restaurant for the past few years and have always been very warmly welcomed. The food is always good and the menu changes regularly whilst still keeping their favourite regulars. The team of staff are extremely well trained and above all friendly and polite.
I would recommend the Old Beams to anyone wanting a good, relaxing meal in a friendly atmosphere.

“Good for Christmas Eve”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

Considering the bar and restaurant were packed to the rafters on Christmas Eve our party of 10 had good service and most of the food was good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant had a lovely Christmassy atmosphere. The owner even made time to come and speak to us to make sure we were happy!

“Spotless, friendly and characterful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

This is a new build pub on the site of an earlier farmhouse - it is even newer because the first build suffered from a major fire. It is an outlet for the small Hertford brewer McMullen and thus brings some novelty into Milton Keynes and a range of carefully looked after cask beers. The interior manages to combine pub and restaurant successfully It is very clean and cared for and has tasteful furniture and a spacious layout. What does not quite work is the food which is expensive and is largely convenience and ping food - it does not match the ambience of the building. Prices for the food are high compared with other brands and chains locally. Desserts are generous in portion but reveal their recent tryst with the microwave. But all in all it is a very attractive independent pub in Milton Keynes.

“Absolutely awful, would never go again”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

Six of us ate there last night. It was freezing cold, we all had to keep our coats on. The food was pretty awful. I had the chicken and bacon stack, burnt chicken like shoe leather and a tiny piece of overcooked bacon in a dry bun with a stack of unshredded iceberg lettuce. Chips were also overcooked. The rest of the party had the turkey dinner which they all said was ok but nothing at all special. The staff were unattentive, we had to attract their attention to order more drinks, and again to order dessert. They were all about 17 years old, there didn't seem to be anyone in charge. They were helpful when we asked but just weren't switched on. This is the second time I've eaten here and it wasn't much better then. We definitely won't be back.
