This visit wasn't my first to this restaurant.
If you've never been to a GBK, service is delivered on a model MacDonalds meets Pizza Hut.
So, you are shown to your table, the service explained, provided a menu and then you have to go up to the till to order and pay prior to your meal and drinks being delivered to your table (after an appropriate wait for the food to be cooked).
When we arrived (an early evening visit prior to cinema) the restaurant had customers at two tables. Two of our party decided on "this months special" and by the time we'd decided, the two tills were taken by other customers, so we queued. The servers at the tills seems attentive, there was the usual selling of extras and one of the servers had taken her customers order (and the customer stepped away from the counter) I smartly stepped in to be completely ignored by the server who got on with making up the drink order for the party she had just taken the order from. Some minutes later, the second server had finished with her customer and moved to me to take my order.
This months special was out of stock - the excuse was they hadn't had a delivery that day, well I'm sorry, why weren't were told by the waitress who gave us our menus or the special taken off the board? Another few minutes wasted by having to return to the table and decide on a suitable replacement for the two who wanted the special - luckily no one else went to the till counter in that time.
When the food was delivered we received an apology and a free serving of onion rings. The burgers were tasty, I'm not sure whether the buns served with them are different per meat patty placed in them but one of the party was raving about their bun (containing wild boar), mine (containing beef)was a bit ordinary.
Skinny fries were cold, but they are so skinny, they can't hold that much heat straight after coming out of the fryer. Milk shakes were fantastic and onion rings a bonus.
My only gripe is with the service (and this is down to the model of how they deliver the service), lovely people, but the management of this branch must keep their waitresses (and signage) up to date with availability who in turn communicate to the customers. That visit was probably my last; there are too many other restaurants in Basingstoke to have to suffer this.
