“just perfect”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

I've become a regular visitor to this charming and cosy pub.

The welcome is always superb. The owners and staff make it a really great, fun place to visit.
The ever-changing draught beers are excellent and the wine choice is very good.

I've become a big fan of the home-made burgers, the ham, egg and chips whilst the steaks are always excellent. The specials board changes daily with some great choices.

A recent addition to the main menu, coq au vin, is superb.

In the summer months the large garden is a great place to relax whilst in the less warm weather the bar is very cosy. The relatively small area makes the place more traditional though an enlargement wouldn't lose this place any charm.

If you judge a place by its people, its food and its prices ... you can't go wrong here.

“Very average.”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

I visited this pub for the first time with my daughter. I found it very small and a bit claustrophobic, the table was seated right next to the door so couldnt relax but all the other tables were not much more inviting. We had to wait quite a while for our order to be taken. We both chose two different specials from the board, fillet of pork and french duck. When the meals came out they both looked almost identical but just with different meat on top? No potatoes or veggies just meat plonked on overly mayonaised salad, not great. The pork was under cooked and the duck was overcooked. Struggled to get through the meals. The meals were overpriced for a dolled up salad too. The decor and ambience is poor with awful dirty plastic type lino flooring. Our candle on the table was in a wax coated holder not even lit, cutlery dirty. I am slightly disappointed that this is our local pub. Will not be returning.

“Good pub grub”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

The food is very good, well priced & summed up by the word honest!

The ales are delightful, the atmosphere is great perhaps a little loud but certainly nothing to worry about.

As pubs serving food go; this one does a good job indeed.

“What's all the fuss about ?”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

We passed this place a few times whilst out driving to Basingstoke. We thought it would be nice to go there for a meal some evening so I looked up the reviews and they all seemed pretty good on here. Well omg it's nothing more than a wee old pub in the sticks with a very average menu. For a starter we shared the Brie now usually when you order Brie it's piping hot ? Well no not here its was sort of hot on the very outside but cold there on in, dissapointment number 1. I then had the all singing and dancing honey roast ham, eggs and chips everyone was giving the great reviews about. The eggs where snotty the ham did not taste anything like honey roast or anything for that matter and the chips well nothing special cold is how I would describe them. The wife had the homemade burger and chips again this was cold and nothing to write home about. People don't waste your time or money going here it is nothing like the good reviews people are giving it. And when it came to paying for the meal the woman asked was everything ok I said no actually the Brie was cold in the middle and her reaction......ohhh sorry about that ? Yeah as if that helps her reaction should have been taking 10% of the bill or something more along the lines. One word to describe our short time spent there .....crap
