This is a great hotel with good location to local restaurants and shops.
Only 10 mins walk from Train station and even less from bus station.
Rooms good size and usually very clean.
Loads of sockets as well which are brilliant! plugs all over the place.
Comfy beds and pillows, showers decent.

Cheaper than some local "global" brands and perfect for all travellers.
No gym or pool (i think).
Breakfasts excellent. Well staffed bar, who are a good bunch.Recpetionist are great as well.

Room Tip: The executive rooom are even better.

Just spent all week at the Red Lion Basingstoke. Firstly the location is perfect, easy parking and everything you could want within a few minutes walk.
The rooms though, are dated with very poor plumbing and proberbly the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in at a hotel. So bad that I had to lie on top of the duvet to use it as padding to protect me from the lumps and bumps of the matress. The soundproofing is non-existent ( you can hear people coming and going and doors opening and closing all the time) The price I had to pay to stop here, was very expensive and totally overpriced for the quallity of the place. All in all I couldn't wait to get my business finished so that I could leave. I spend 90% of my working life stopping in hotels and this is the first time that I have ever felt compelled to warn people about a place. DO NOT STOP HERE.

Me and my partnet stayed at the Red Lion Hotel in Basingstoke a few weekends ago. We felt it was very good value for money and we had a lovely comfortable stay. Yes- the furniture may be slightly outdated but this really didnt bother us! It was very clean and comfortable and thats all that matters. The staff at the Red Lion are all very friendly and helpful, especially the receptionist and restaurant manager. The food was lovely and not too expensive- we recommend the steak!

Thanks Red Lion. We Will definatly be back again!

This hotel is going down hill. It has always been a reliable choice for me when I stay in Basingstoke, for its price and its location. However if they keep cutting corners; I will have to start going elsewhere.

Apart from the bed being short and uncomfortable, the worst element to our room was the gut churning foul smell of stale cigarette smoke.

Had a very cold nights sleep, as the only way to reduce the stench was to have the window open, which then introduced the issue of noise from the surrounding nightlife.

Staff friendly and bar prices for a hotel are acceptable.

My wife had a birthday party at the hotel on the 4th Jan 2014 the Management and staff made us very welcome the time we got there until we left they can not do enough for you.
We stayed at the Read Lion Hotel when we got into the room there was a smell and we noticed the floor was wet as well we went to the reception to say that the floor was wet and she gave us a choice of two rooms but we didn't like those at meantime the manager was at the reception he gave us the honeymoon suite nice big bed, jacuzzi, three piece it made my wife's birthday definitely recommend the Red Lion Hotel to stay and have parties

We were really impressed by the quality of food and entertainment at the New Year's Eve party. The food was especially good given the number of people being catered for.

The staff were helpful and friendly and the general ambience of the hotel was very good.
