“Good family fun at the farm!”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

My granddaughter and I visited Smithills Open Farm as part of a small school trip.

Plenty of farm animals to look at. We enjoyed the petting session were you can hold, stroke and feed the animals as they are brought out of the pens and handed round by the friendly staff.

Piglets, sheep, goats, chicks, a donkey, owl and snake all part of the session.

There is a section including insects and reptiles.

Children can enjoy a donkey and tractor ride for a small additional cost.

The farm also has a play / park area area and café.

Remember this is a working farm so don't forget your wellies!!

“A decent half day out but better in good weather”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

Just had friends over and took the kids to the farm. Weather not the best but managed a mainly dry (but cold) day. Take your Wellies if wet!!
Small indoor bouncey area with 2 castles but old and tatty but the kids dont mind and play tractors to sit on. It is a working farm so you can see the small range of animals. Some young goats, calfs, chicks, lambs and piglets and of course tyhe huge python. Sit aound on straw bales and they bring all these out to bottle feed with some but a quick touch until the next. Small chicks, rabbits etc are great for the kids.
Outside play area and donkey rides but only when dry!! tractor ride a quid for a couple of minutes but the kids love it. The milking of the cows is great. get to stand close and watch and again the kids love it and educational.
small cafe and basics if you are going to die of hunger but take a pack lunch and flask if it is fine and enjoy the area outside. My only gripe is after a number of visits over the last few years is that it has got dearer everytime i have called. I think iot was £8 for adults and £7 for kids so too pricey if you cannot get the day out of it. Enjoyed the time and so did the kids but will think again at this price. They have started a loyalty card. I think pay for three visits and you fourth is free but thats nearly £100 for our lot before we get it free and perhaps we have been enough.

“Good Family Day Out”
Reviewed February 22, 2014

We all visited Smithills Open Farm today on a Childs Birthday party, and it was a really good afternoon out. The staff were really good with us, and our kids were able to feed a few of the amimals. We were taken round as a group by one of the staff who was really good with us and our kids. They have lambs, cows, goats, chics, rabbits and donkeys. They have a tractor and trailor ride, and you get to feed donkeys with a good view over Bolton. There are donkey rides, and a childs play area. I would like to re-visit in summer as it was cold today. Please note that on the way in there is a barrier stopping wide vehicles travelling through, so if you have a wide vehicle, you may not be able to get through.
