The location of the Jumbles is excellent, with pleasant walks from the visitor centre, with an ever changing view, but do beware that the path to the right from the cafe is a gentle slope but there are joggers travelling at speed in the same area, at weekends it is very busy particularly at bank holidays. The cafe is pleasantly laid out, but the service is inconsistent, its rather odd but I| have found when the staff on duty are young that they are swift and pleasant, but when I went yesterday, the service was poor and slow, despite the fact they had not many customers but a number of staff on duty, prices are not cheap and although they offer a selection of coffees these are in fact made from a packet rather than the usual machines.
Do beware if wanting to travel to the left side of the reservoir the path is steep and poor underfoot, there are steps but for anyone with mobility issues I would recommend keeping away from this area, again there seem to be many joggers and families with dogs, some sadly not under control(I feel this applies to tothe joggers as much as the families, as the path is narrow and they seem reluctant to move off onto the grass when faced with other walkers, one of our group was using a walking stick to assist him but this made no difference to some of the other visitors we encountered, at the other extreme we came across some very considerate people on our walk

Watch out for dog dirt; apart from that the walk is lovely, there is a very steep hill or lots of steep steps at the entrance just off the car park, good walking shoes would be an advantage & you need to be able to walk up and down inclines. The views are lovely from certain stop offs, and there is a little cafe with an ice cream shop, nothing posh but good for a brew and a snack. We visited 21/04/2014 and the car park was full but people coming and going all the time, so we didn't have to wait too long for a space to park. Pay station out of order.

We went through Jumbles on our mountain bikes as a bit of a short cut to get across from Hawkshaw to Turton Tower. There were some signs which said no cycling so we wheeled our bikes for part of the ride round the reservoir but cycled bits where there were no or few walkers. It's a beautiful spot with lots of seats to sit and admire the view and it has a lovely little cafe with very friendly staff. No one seemed bothered by us having bikes there and we were careful not to get in anyone's way.
The reservoir is big enough so that it doesn't feel like everyone is trotting around together in a pack and it's a lovely place to take children - the ducks must be some of the best fed ever! A great place the spend an afternoon - with or without bikes!
