well it`s not as big as The Cairo Museum, but it has something that the Cairo Museum has not.
There is an area to one side, dimly lit, where it portrays the inside of a Pyramid, planked floors, paintings on the wall depicting the life of the Pharaoh.the exhibition is well worth a visit.
There is a running documentary for children which is easily watched too.
Every item is well detailed and so very interesting, in fact i can`t wait to go back to Egypt again.

After a long period of renovation Bolton museum and art gallery has emerged a much refreshed place. With revamps 'improvement' is never a given. The art gallery appears lighter and has a majestic oil painting of the then 'Wild West' by Bolton's own Thomas Moran (whose pictures also hang in the White House) plus a couple of sketches. There's also a Ben Nicolson and a Vanessa Bell. Good to see there's a section on 'Worktown' when sociologists, anthropologists, photographers and artists descended on Bolton in the 1930s. Perhaps a mistake to move some of the Victorian paintings to the staircases as it's not easy to see or identify them well unless with binoculars: please move them to at least viewable areas of the staircase. In these days of minute attention spans, it's a tough task to keep any kids engaged with static exhibits, no matter how interesting. The acoustics of the galleries are awful - maybe a bit of carpeting might help - but the piercing screams of the under 7s can ruin a visit of contemplation as the sound carries really far throughout the galleries. It certainly shortened my visit to the main hall and the noise level was so uncomfortable I had to give a miss to the much-lauded new Egyptian gallery. I will try to visit again after making sure the noise level is down a bit. Very happy to see the museum is available to the public again - I've been visiting for around 60 years.

The new Egyptological rooms were wonderful, especially the replica of the Tomb of the Pharaoh Thutmose III, having been to the original tomb in the Valley of the Kings I almost felt I was there, the 3D imaging to create the replica is extremely accurate and well worth a visit. The Egyptian artefacts in the room behind have been very well displayed and are very well lit. If you are an Egypt fan or just love ancient artefacts you will enjoy it.

I was very impressed with the transformation at Bolton Museum Egyptology department. There seemed to be loads of exhibits when I made a brief visit on the opening day. They looked amazing, enhanced by the sophisticated lighting. There was also a short film, with a countdown to start time. The art gallery looked new and fresh, with old and new paintings. I will definitely return and spend more time there. I hope this free attraction is used by schools, groups and the public. It was extremely busy on the Saturday I visited.

Just visited the newly opened Egyptology section of Bolton Museum, it really is amazing and well worth visiting no matter what age you are!
It is very well set out and it really does feel like you are in an underground tomb with engravings etc on the wall as well as the other interesting exhibits.
As well as this there is the Art Gallery, Local History and off course the stuffed animals which I remember seeing as a child.
Plenty to amuse the children as well so good for a family visit.
