Description: In 2016, the pub underwent an extensive refurbishment and now offers, what we believe to be the finest dining experience available in the area. Careful attention was given to retain the original characteristics of the building but still providing a contemporary feel inside showcasing an open fire, cosy en-suite accommodation rooms, outside beer garden in the lovely countryside area of Belmont Village. The country pub has added a new menu complimented with Gastro pub specials, a mouth-watering ice-cream parlour accompanied with freshly made desserts that is served throughout the year. For the drinkers, the pubs offers a vast array of premium spirits, selected fine wines and world beers to quench all taste buds.

“Traditional English pub, great food great atmosphere”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

A very traditional English pub / restaurant that provides great food at an affordable price. With an atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional English pub. With open fires, traditional interiors, really friendly landlord and staff, the kind of place to unwind after a hard week, or if you are of a mind a great place to celebrate a special occasion. I cannot fault either the food or the staff, be assured of a pleasant evening at the Black Dog Inn.

“" The Chef Can't Cope"”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

I booked table for two for 8pm Saturday 16.2.13 for meal out on my wife's birthday. We arrived at 7.50pm, to be greeted by the manager, who's welcome was " First of all, - you don't want to eat, do you?" As it is a restaurant, and I had made a booking for a meal I replied "Yes"
He then said " There's a problem in the kitchen, the chef can't cope." My wife then told him that we had made a booking for 8pm, and he said in a quite downbeat, defeated manner - " Well you can wait in there if you want." indicating the half to threequarters full restaurant. There was no indication of the possible waiting time.
It was a less than warm welcome, so we decided not to add to the chef's and the manager's problems, and possibly waste our time waiting for a meal that may or may not materialise. We left. You have to wonder if a meal did arrive, how long it would take, and what it would be like as the manager had already expressed his lack of confidence in the chef.
We were absolutely staggered by the attitude of the manager ( a young man who appeared out of his depth) who despite having received our booking, clearly did not want us to eat at their resaturant that night. If they can't cope with a half - threequarter full reataurant, they should not take so many bookings. We are a repectable married couple in our 60's and were smartly dressed.
I am sorry if this upsets anyone working at the restaurant or whoever owns it,but this is an actual and truthfull account of our very brief visit. It was a big let down for us to go out for a meal and be met with such negativity from the manager.
We will not be troubling The Black Dog again.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Came here as its part of the same group as The Griffin in Heald Green Cheshire with the same menu. All I can say is that I won't be going back. It was New Years day, they had run out of mash potato (!), ribs and lasagne. The place was empty as we arrived between lunch and dinner however the service did not relay this. Our starters took almost half an hour to arrive and when our mains came out, 2 came first and the other 2 had a delay, very annoying. The food was presented dreadfully, burnt onion rings, burnt chicken burger, a slop of sauce which was the piri piri chicken (clearly was a chicken tonight premade sauce). The place was freezing cold, all the lights were on the brightest setting so no ambience at all and the waitress had dirty finger nails! All in all you can keep the black dog, I shall be going back to The Griffin in future. The black dog needs down grading from its premier status as its misleading.

“Good food,good company”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

Not many real pubs left, enjoy this one while you can. Idiots like sandnotoil clearly have an axe to grind-I doubt she can do much more than microwave. Try the specials if you want something a bit different.
