The food here is great but the last time we visited was for a birthday party.and the service was absolutely terrible. The slowest I have ever had. The place was very busy and very understaffed. It took us two and a half hours to get through the meal, which completely put a dampener on our evening. If it had just been two of us having a meal we would have left after the starter which took almost an hour.

Thank Christine F

We went to San Marino expecting something really special but what we got was a bit odd.

Food wise, for a restaurant that makes much of it's food sourcing, we expected food that followed the seasons but my overly rich main (heavy on cheese and butter) was more mid winter than mid summer. Similarly the veg was buttery and non-seasonal cauliflower, carrots etc. My wife's fish was somewhat Mediterranean (tomato based sauce) but the rest was more late 20th century British than anything else.

Service wise, it was weird. Admittedly it was mid week but we were told to find our own table by someone who didn't even leave the comfort of their desk to come with us. We had to ask for a wine list and the food came before the wine which was just odd. The food came rapidly one course after another, which meant that we were home much earlier than we expected.

Overall, I'm glad we were on a mid week special menu because it made the evening low cost but to be honest we won't rush back. It's not that it was terrible - it definitely wasn't. It was just a bit disappointing and there are other restaurants nearby that we are likely to go over this one.

We had our wedding reception at San Marino's on Thursday- it was fantastic in every way. The food was excellent- many of our guests commented that it was the best that they had ever had. The wedding breakfast was delicious- I particularly enjoyed the chicken liver pate, steak and tiramisu. The evening buffet was also fantastic- and our guests polished it all off. It was excellent value for money. The service was superb- the staff went above and beyond to make our day run smoothly. The restaurant is beautiful and the outdoor seating area was brilliant in the lovely weather that we had. It was very child-friendly and our son and other younger guests enjoyed the food and the outdoor area. We will definitely be coming back to dine at this restaurant again and we would highly recommend a visit to others.

I have been twice to this restaurant in the last month. I had delicious food on both occasions, I can only think that the people who are writing the bad reviews went to a different restaurant than I did. The staff are efficient and friendly and non obtrusive. I can highly reccomend the duck, venison, monkfish and the creme brulee. Will be back soon.

Ate a late lunch here on Saturday in an almost empty restaurant. The focaccia whuch we ordered was replaced by a lacklustre flatbread with no word of explanation! The tiramisu was very disappointing-the sponge fingers had been nowhere near either coffee or masala and were bone dry. Other than that, the food was unremarkable but the service friendly and efficient. We won't be bothering to make the trip back for a second visit as we have much better closer to home.
