This was out first visit to 'Nicks Restaurant' on Chorley Old Road and had come highly recommended by friends. The Restaurant is small and we had to be accomodated downstairs due to one of our party being disabled (no toilet downstairs for disabled people please note this)! The restaurant is not appropriate for disabled people who can not climb stairs and this should be made know on the website by the owner, as this person sat all night with a glass of water not wanting to drink too much because of obvious reason no toilet downstairs.

The Restaurant was busy and there is not enough room to move around without knocking the chair next to you or at the back of you! The starters were fine after a small hicup of getting two of them wrong and we had to wait a while until it was resolved, they did have plenty of flavour and were big portions. Main course which two of our party had was chicken kiev - again a large piece of chicken on a small bed of rice. After cutting in to the chicken it was bland/dry and lacked any season along with no garlic, this was brought to the attention of a female member of staff who took the meal away, at no time during the meal was we approached with an apology or an alternative. The service was slow and we have to say the restaurant did lack any atmosphere.

We declined on a dessert due to the experience and excessive wait. The bill was given to us with an overdue apology, we did make our views know to the staff regarding the food and this was not acknowledged in any way by the member of staff. Also short changed us when we received our change after paying the bill, a small amount. We would not recommend this esablishment or visit it again under any circumstances.

Would suggest the owner make it clear that there are no w.c. downstairs and disabled people are going to struggle as this was never made clear to us at any stage of our booking over the telephone and there is nothing on the website to state this. This was a very poor experience and as it was a birthday meal for one of our party it was appalling to say the least. Got the distinct impression it was get people in and out as quickly as possible!!!!!!

I have been to Nicks, Chorley Old Road many times and the food has never been less than excellent. The choice is superb, the selection and cooking of vegetables is spot on, The portions are good. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is lovely, what more can I say - a hidden gem!

Food and service were excellent but I think this place is a bit small in my opinion, also, we had bookd on a family meal and no childrens menu was available, that didnt really matter as they had small portions from the main menu but worth baring in mind if you have young children who may want plain childrens meals

The review title says it all. This place has had great reviews for a long time but just didn't quite hit the spot for us.
Crispy duck salad portion was huge but smothered in sauce. Cod main course very fresh but similarly large portion lacked real finesse. We saw other people's steak mains which looked huge.
Nick's is quite expensive by local standards but obviously appeals to those with big appetites.
We will give it another go, though, because so many reviewers can't all be wrong and maybe we just caught an off night which can happen at the best of places.

Service was friendly, wine list reasonable.

Nicks is famous in Bolton for excellent food, service and atmosphere along with spotting the odd celebrity.
It's definitely not the cheapest place to eat or the easiest place to get a table but it's well worth saving up and waiting a few weeks.
I have sampled a few fillet steaks over the years but not one comes close to the perfectly cooked offering that you get here.
Along with the steak there is usually seasonal veg including pumpkin mash which blew my taste buds away.
The selection of starters and desserts are also mouthwatering.
I'm told the wine selection is very good but I don't know my Lambrini from a Blue Nun.
If you have a special occasion or just want to enjoy superb food then this is a perfect venue but be warned, you won't come away with much change.
