Maybe you only pass through Memorial Gardens on your way between County Mall and Marks & Spencer, but if you can find a free bench, stop for a while and relax. I'm so glad this town centre garden has been preserved all these years and not fallen prey to developers. The planting is interesting and colourful - all credit to the Council's gardeners for keeping the place looking so good. In dry weather you'll see groups of students sprawled across the lawns, benches full of older folk enjoying the flowers, and families with youngsters packing the adjacent playground. Grab a sarnie from M&S and a takeaway brew from Coffee Republic and hey, you've got a picnic!

In the middle of a 70's town there is this square with lush lawns and some plants trying to be an Eco friendly environment.
I had a few hours to kill in this town while my car scuffed wheels were repaired.
One thing that is good is Crawley's bus service, I went from a sprawling industrial state to the centre in less than 10 minutes.
Nearby Gatwick airport means that Crawley is full of companies supplying services to airlines and all manner of associated enterprises.
Their shopping mall has Debenhams as anchor and a few other shops that makes it rather pleasant. Nearby shops are obviously in need of a make over, there's too many bet shops and Poundland outlets.
The place in the middle of West Sussex has a mixed ethnic feeling. No doubt people are driven by the international flavour of the nearby airport.
If you want to see a town designed in the 70's for the service industry then Crawley is probably the place.

The park is a very nice place to have a picnic or casual lunch in summertime. The weather even in October is so mild that even fish & chips and a cold can of coke are very enjoyable.

The garden is strategically placed in the middle of the town center surrounded by "The County Mall" on an NCP car park on the other and a whole raft of outdoor shops including M&S, TK MAX, and Sainsbury's Local.

There is a very heavy footfall of people moving in and out of the park

The memorial gardens are lovely... and I enjoy walking through there - but despite there being a sign saying "NO CYCLISTS" - the place is continually abused by cyclists!

I am disabled and cannot hear well - so image my surprise when the first thing you know about impatient cyclists behind you is the shock of seeing them almost literally on your shoulders.... I know its an easy "cut through" from the shops - but please it spoils such a lovely area when SOME cyclists (not all!) are rude and impatient - even though they shouldnt be there in the first place (and there is no one there to enforce it!!!)

It´s a nice garden and good walk in the park. You can sit there in a good weather and look at the people and beautiful trees and flowers.
