“its a terrible hotel for a premier inn, such disorganised staff”
Reviewed June 2, 2010

its a premier inn - the rooms are the same all over the country they aint going to change so it IS comfortable with good rooms, flat screens tv's and lovely hot showers etc. The main problem with this hotel is that it is an airport hotel... located at the airport .... so they seem surprised that people all turn up later in the day to check in, all want to park and all want to eat at the stupidly small restaurant. Its was disorganised chaos. Next time I fly from gatwick I will stay slightly further away and drive the few miles in.......

If you can get one of the Premier Inn deals – e.g. the £29 per room per night offer – then this is an excellent choice for those travelling from Gatwick. It is within walking distance of the North Terminal (and you can get the shuttle to the South Terminal from there).

The rooms are fairly typical Premier Inn – but have been recently renovated so have a good standard of décor that is streets ahead of the rival Travelodge chain. There was no issue with road or aircraft noise from my room. Check-in was a bit slow, but it was a busy time – 5pm, with some rooms still being made up – and the hotel might have been extra busy that day due to various flight delays / cancellations.

The TV is a full Freeview set, meaning you can get the full range of TV and Radio stations. The breakfast looked good on the posters – I didn’t sample it.

Getting to the hotel for the first time can be a challenge – and you may end up taking the hotel shuttle, which is £2.50 to a hotel 150 yards from the Airport boundary. To find the walking route you need to get to the left hand exit of the North Terminal (as you face outwards). At the lower level you will see the hotel shuttles – walk past these to the left, below the flyover road from the upper level – you then cross this road, and the footpath is easy to follow from there. There is a gap to get in the hotel grounds to the left of the BP station.

All in all this is a very good choice, even for those travelling from the South Terminal.

We stopped over for two nights on the inward and outward legs of our holiday. Both times we arrived too late for dinner, so I can't comment on that. The breakfast buffet is excellent, though, with all you can eat of virtually all continental and British staples, and good quality.
The rooms were clean and functional. The notable thing about Premier Inns is the stunningly high quality of their mattresses; firmly sprung but padded with a double thickness compared to domestic mattresses. With the ample soundproofing, it adds up to a sound night's sleep.
Special mention for Naomi, the breakfast waitress: A ray of sunshine to come down to, on both our visits.
On the downside, the reception telephone system could be better. Phoning to check availability, we ran out of credit while battling through the automated exchange. We wanted to ask a person, not be taken through a long list of options by a robot. Luckily, we got a room. They lose a point on service for that.

We stayed in the Premier Inn before our flight to Venice. The rate wasn't cheap at £71 for a double room for a night but we thought it would be suffcient. The room was clean but hot and airless. We couldn't really open the window either because our room overlooked the petrol station and it was quite noisy. The shuttle bus was a bit of a rip off, I would advise anyone staying here to walk it if you can. We booked online also for a meal and breakfast for £20 each. We had booked a time but they were so disorganised they hadn't actually booked us a reservation. The food took so long, we got fed up of waiting and it wasn't that great but we were so hungry we ate it! The restaurant staff were busy cleaning tales rather than getting the glass of water I asked twice for! The breakfast didn't cater for us, we had to leave fairly early and when we asked a member of staff if they could arrange a takeaway they said they could but they clearly forgot so we left without any. We won't be staying there again!

I stayed one night prior to an early flight from the North Terminal. If you arrive at Gatwick by train you will arrive at South terminal and need to take the shuttle bus (not free) to the hotel. Signs to find the busses and the information placard could be improved, but this is the fault of the airport, not the hotel. The shuttle only runs about every 20 minutes, so I took the free shuttle to the North terminal and walked to the hotel; I would only recommend doing this if you have very little luggage and are on a tight budget.

When I arrived the hotel was very busy but staff was friendly and efficient. My room was very nice and the bed very comfortable.

I would stay here again, especially at the 29 pound promotional rate.

My wife and I stayed for one night prior to flying from South Terminal. We independently booked our car into AirParks for 15 days from the day of checking-in. So we dropped our bags off and checked into the hotel, delivered the car to AirParks for storage (just a short drive away) and took the AirParks shuttle to North Terminal walking to the hotel using directions given in an earlier post. The next morning, rather than taking the hotel shuttle, we opted for a taxi which the receptionist booked when we checked in and cost six pounds and took just a few minutes to drop us at South Terminal departures.

We ate in the hotel and while the evening meal was ok it was nothing to write home about. In contrast, the Full English Breakfast (£7.50 each) was fantastic, the sausages being especially good! All the hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful which created a really good atmosphere. We had a room on the top floor facing away from the hotel car park and toward the main airport access road, however with triple glazing there was no problem with noise - you could hear traffic but neither myself nor my wife found it a problem. As the ads claim, the beds were very comfortable. Lastly, I wouldn't recommend walking to or from the North Terminal with even medium sized trolley bags as the pavements are very narrow in places.
