The Hilton is a rather large hotel slap bang on Gatwick South Terminal with the long stay car park literally just across the road - anyway this is about the restaurant not the hotel..
We had a bottle of wine in the bar to warm up the evening and could overhear a small crowd behind us saying they would be heading into Crawley to go to the Bella Italia - well I don't mind going to Bella's either but the thought of leaving a hotel to go into Crawley wouldn't be on my 'to do' list! The hotel restaurant (Amys) was too expensive for the group in question and certainly its not a cheap joint but the sevice from a Nepalese waitress was very good indeed with a perfect 'English' sense of humour.
To start I had the beef carpaccio (very small) followed by the grilled seafood platter (very big) which was superb accompanied by a Chablis from Louis Jadot, always a reliable bottle. Cheese to follow was probably too much but hey I was on holiday.
The bill including that bottle of chablis and a pinot grigio in the bar came in at a hefty £160ish however the food itself would have been maybe £80 including the most expensive main. To be honest I was impressed by the food in such a 'one night' traveller hotel at an airport and granted not everyone will want to pay so much however I believe there was a cheaper option upstairs
