Ramada Crawley Gatwick

Have stayed in the Ramada Crawley (was the George) on many occasions but this will be my last until there has been a make over and/or thorough clean.

Was given a smoking room which was really off putting and smelly. Carpet was grubby and gritty. Everywhere needed a good clean. Bathroom was ok but due to lack of ventilation condensation started dripping off the ceiling. Double bed was tiny and the presence of a big black hair didn't really help matters!!

Plus side...free wifi, free parking and great location.

Room Tip: Rooms in the annexe are tired...don't know what the ones in min building are like.

Chose this hotel rather than be isolated at a typical airport hotel and in the hope of having a choice of places to dine and shop. The hotel is on a pedestrianised section of the High Street so passing traffic is not an issue however noise generated by the hotel itself (I doubt there's a single floorboard that doesn't creak loudly), housekeeping staff in the morning and other guests (all room and hallway fire doors doors are sprung loaded and slam loudly) was a real problem for me. Probably the least comfortable night I've had for a long time.

The rooms are distinctly average although amusingly in mine not one thing hung on the wall was straight! Trouser press, mirror and two pictures were all skewed so if someone you dislike suffers from OCD send them here, they'll go mad. Beds and linen were clean but so-so, furniture is low grade. The room itself was warm but the bathroom unheated,, not pleasant with a tiled floor in November.

Skipped breakfast so can't comment on that however for dinner I would strongly recommend the Turkish restaurant opposite. Hotel receptionist was a nice guy, very helpful, just a shame the housekeeping crew weren't as considerate.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor to avoid stomping and creaking from rooms above.

I should have stayed at the premier inn, they have a good nights sleep guarantee

They failed to give me the double bed I had booked, there were 2 singles in the room.

I was woken 3 times in the night with excessive noise outside my window which was open on a warm night.

The first time was the pub next door tipping bottles into a bin and wheeling it past my window on an uneven surface, at 1am

The next time was several people talking loudly at 2.30, probably smokers

Finally the bin men woke me at 5am wheeling a large bin past my window.

The man on reception in the morning didn't seem to care less when I complained

If you like a peaceful breakfast don't eat there, the TV is on loudly in the breakfast room

I will not be returning, it is a disgrace to Ramada putting their name to that hotel

The George is well overdue for a serious makeover. I stayed her around 12 years ago and it was really good. Sadly not much appears to have been done to the place since. It is now really tired, dated soft furnishings abound and some areas of the old hotel have a very redolent odour, damp being predominant. Floor boards creak and there is a profusion of mastic sealant in the bathrooms.

Despite this there are several points in its favour. Its central location is ideal for all the pubs, bars, shops and restaurants and there is ample parking. My room was large and clean (no odours), good size telly, free wi-fi and the bed was comfortable.

The staff are not over friendly but efficient. If you are disabled the place could be a real challenge, no ramps, or lifts etc. Ramada is a global chain and I have stayed in some of their flagship hotels, even the Ramada off the M23 junction 10 is light years ahead of this place. Perhaps it’s time they got the cheque book out and called in the builders.

Room Tip: The £10 upgrade gives you a few extras

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
Dirty corridors, dirty room, pubic hairs in the bathroom, broken door locks. The breakfast was cold, greased and disgusting with the eggs cooked in the deep fat fryer. The receptionist was rude and could not care less when ŷou complained. Refused room service and told that they had no wine for the next three days and no facilities for serving ice. Disgustingly low standards and a could not care less attitude from the staff. It's a great shame because the original George Hotel on which The Current Ramada is based was a lovely old fashioned coaching in all of the issues relate to bad management and place just needs a damn good shake up. The very scruffy car park has guys noisily washing cars from very early in the morning which just adds to the disappointing experience. I would never give this hotel another cance.
