If you are stuck indoors and dont want to spent alot of money evdry time you take the family out, tilgate could be just the ticket. With a small zoo ( local wildlife tather than exotics), a cafe a lake with paths all round, playground fot the lil ones and gardens of a good variety why not pack a picnic and make of to crawley tilgate and relax in the sunshine . I use it to switch off every 5 weeks or so.. if nothing else the kids can let off steam lol.

This is a great park, lots to see while walking or running around. Lake is beautiful on both a winter or summers day. I often visit this park throughout the year as its local and always great fun. Good for kids with the play ground, there is a place to eat (tad expensive) but good for lunch or dinner. The park has an animal centre which is brilliant, donations in the winter and very cheap in the summer, great selection of animals, enough to keep both kids and grown ups entertained all day. There is another little cafe here which offers a good selection of cafe food. Overall a wonderful park, highly recommended and will continue to visit as often as I can. A good cheap day out for the family.

Aside from the inadequate parking, this is a really good full day out with something for everyone. Add to this the new-ish Smith & Western restaurant, and you've got the best of both worlds: Free day out, finished with a decent meal and not too pricey. Can get busy though at peak times.

Beautiful place, lovely walks around the lakes, excellent small farm with lots of animals. Smith & Western as a great place to eat. Downside it costs to park your car there, and at busy times the disabled parking is aways full.

Sir Malcolm Campbell developed and flotation tested "Bluebird" on Tilgate Lake for the land speed record and locally it became known as Campbell's lake. There is a blue plaque at the water's edge confirming this.
The grounds and vast and there is plenty of space for the children to run around. The grassy hill leading down to the lake becomes very popular for picnics in the warmer months. The walled gardens are well kept and there is a cafe in the centre which can be very busy. The animal area used to be free but now there is a charge per person rather than the donations box which they had been using. Whilst I see there is good reason for this, it can become expensive if you are part of a group.
Parking is charged although I am unsure of the exact amount we had to pay.
