Courtyard by Marriott London Gatwick Airport
Ranked #20 of 28 Hotels in Crawley
Reviewed April 24, 2013

My husband and I stayed here before going on holiday after coming over from Jersey. Receptionist friendly, quick check in process. We were placed in a room right opposite the lifts, which we weren't too happy about but the staff were more than helpful enough and quickly put us in another room down the end of a hallway.

Nice, spacious clean room. Can't complain! You don't here ANY aircraft noise as the hotel is so well soundproofed even though you are right next to the runway.

Hotel bar is nice and the food is very good. We chose to eat in the bar as we have stayed here before and found the restaurant expensive with not such a great atmosphere.

We chose to walk to the terminal both ways and it takes around 10 mins. Otherwise it's £3 each one way on a bus.

Easy check out and would stay here again.

Stayed only one night at this hotel . We had debarked from a transatlantic cruise and only had one night in the UK. Check in was a breeze , friendly efficient staff. Room was on the second floor overlooking courtyard{ non smoking} Tea making facilties in room . Shower only { a bit skimpy with soap and toiletries.}
We asked the receptionist to call us a taxi so that we could go into Crawley . Taxi arrived promptly and we paid 11 pounds one way. The taxi driver told us there was a 24 hour bus from Crawley and as we stayed in Crawley for supper and shopping we took advantage of the cheap cost { two pounds twenty pp.} easy bus ride and stop was in the center of Crawley { Number 10 bus well signed}
Breakfast was not included but was available for 14 pounds} we had a early flight and so ate at the airport.
Room service menu ranged from sandwiches, salads, burgers, Steak. Pricey in my opinion { New York club sandwich with bacon twelve pounds fifty pence.
Shuttle to south and North terminals cost three pounds PP. It was only a ten minute easy walk to South termina. We used the luggage carts outside the hotel for a pound coin and so we had a lovely easy walk.
Would stay here again. Did not hear any aircraft and as stated it was very well maintained.

Further to this booking I was absolutely disgusted with the level of service from this hotel.

On settling to get to sleep as we had an early morning flight-there was a terrible noise coming from what sounded like the air con. A man called Gintz (?) came to look at it. he agreed it was noisy but said it was better than listening to the airplanes and that the noise was unavoidable due to the triple glazing and the air con !! He said it was annoying but not all of the guests complained!

We got no sleep-the whole reason we booked-a complete waste of money and a terrible start to the holiday.

Oh-and when we booked we did put that the children were aged 8 and 16.Before we visited we got a call a few days earlier to say the 16 year old is now classed as an adult and need to pay extra. If that wasn’t enough when we got there and checked in the car -because it was a return night flight and didn’t get in until 7am- we were told we had to pay an additional £10.What an absolute racket. They get you booked-leave it until the last minute then rip you off!!

Definitely the Sofitel for us next time.

Tim Wardley.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel: your feedback is very valuable to us.

Our Air-Conditioning system is state of the art and all rooms are well insulated to avoid any airplane noises. It provides both a cooling and heating option. Due to the heavy insulation, windows cannot be opened and the system never shuts down in order to continuously provide fresh air to the room. This means that even in the economy setting, the sensors will activate the system to ensure the temperature setting and air quality is maintained. We appreciate that for some guests this can cause inconvenience.

All our family rooms have 2 double beds in them and can accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children up to the age of 16. This policy has been in place since the hotel opening in 2009 and is still practised actively for all reservations. We are happy to discuss each guest requirements at the time of the booking and will work with you to ensure a smooth booking process.

The hotel has offered car parking packages to their customers since its opening in 2009. Due to the limited capacity of on-site parking spaces our packages have always been for off-site parking whether the booking is made directly or indirectly with the hotel. This is to make space available for those guests who wish to park their car on-site. We advertise this information quite clearly on our official Marriott website as well. All parking packages start from the day of the guests’ arrival and additional days than booked are charged at £10.00 per day.

Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you in the near future for which we trust will be enjoyable stay.

My daughter 12 And I stayed at the hotel last night as the wife was in Brighton for a hen weekend. We paid £59 for a great room with two double beds good tv bathroom was nice and all was a good size. The bar area is very good too. As I am a member of marriot rewards we also got free wifi! Staff were helpful. The only criticism is that they charge £18.50 to park overnight when you have no alternatives. I would happily have paid £80 including parking so not marking them down for that but in my opinion it's wrong. Would definitely stay there again. Perfect for families

Living in north London has meant that I have never used an airport hotel. However, due to flight times and length of the flight convinced me to try this option.

Despite reading many negative reviews, we decided to try the Courtyard, due to the good price and the fact you can walk to the terminal. It was an excellent decision. Extremely busy on arrival but we were checked in to the hotel and dropped off car keys, to a seperate desk within 5 minutes. The vehicles are obviously driven to a location away from the airport and not kept on site.

Nice comfortable room, and bed, that resulted in a good nights sleep. 7/8 minute easy walk to the terminal, without the need to lug cases on and off buses. On return, the car was waiting in the car park and we was on our way within 5 minutes.

Decent bar in the hotel that even has Murphy's on tap.

Will definitely use the Gatwick Marriot again.
