We didn't stay here just stopped in for some food and a drink. The food is of a decent quality considering it is quite cheap, maybe under £25 for three courses, although the portions are massive so you might struggle to eat three courses, not that that is a bad thing. Nice atmosphere inside the pub too and a few interesting ales and bitters on tap. I would definitely recommend popping in here for a drink and a bite to eat if you are in the Ironbridge area.

We have just returned from a short stay at the shakespeare. The good points are - staff are all very friendly and helpful - food in the pub is good - it's close to all the museums and convenient for everything - parking available. BUT we found the accommodation to be sub-standard. The bed was well worn out, the mattress was horribly uncomfortable. There was something in the drain hole of the sink that resembled 'sick'. There was a dead wasp on the windowsill when we arrived and was still there when we left. The floor is so creaky that you feel guilty about walking on it, it makes a terrible noise. Late at night people take a shower and the water for that shower passes under the bedroom floor and it is so, so noisy, it is not possible to go to sleep until the last person has settled down. There is no dressing table and the shower is very small. We thought the accommodation was over priced. As a pub it is very nice, I would recommend anyone to go and have a meal but stay somewhere else.

Haven't ever stayed here, but if the staff put the same effort into the accommodation as they do when you visit the bar/restaurant, then you won't go far wrong. This is my top local choice for a meal out - lovely place, friendly welcoming staff, very good food. My only complaint is that they give you too much!! Pay them a visit if you're in the area - you may need to book a table as they are always busy.

My husband and I have just returned from a really enjoyable 3 day break in the Ironbridge Gorge staying at the Shakespeare Inn in coalport village. The Inn was excellent, the rooms very clean and tidy, spacious with lots facilities more like a small apartment and each room had its own seperate entrance so no need to go through the pub!(great if you have children) The inn is very quiet during the day as they open at 5pm weekdays noon at weekends. All the staff are very friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Food is excellent and you certainly wont go hungry as the portions are huge!
The village is very quiet peaceful and picturesque. Nearby (walking distance) are the Tar Tunnel,Coalport China Museum and Blist Hill Victorian Town, for other attractions you need a car although we walked to Ironbridge along a woodland Path but its about 3 miles so be warned!
I would recommend a visit to Ironbridge ,you need 3 days to see it all and there are other attractions nearby to fill a week.Buy a museum passport a bargain at £14.50 for all 10 musuems!! Send for the tourist guide to plan your visist or check it out on the "net"!

This small family run Inn close to Ironbridge is a wonderful welcome for travellers. Easy to find and with ample parking the staff were always welcoming and courteous throughout our stay. Whilst there are only a few rooms available despite being above the Inn we were not disturbed by noise. The rooms are all en suite and well appointed with all that a guest could want. Whilst there was no bath the power shower lived up to its name. All in all a very comfortable bed and spacious room.

The Inn has a good reputation for food and the breakfasts continue this tradition. The only issue is the portions - which were substantial. On the second day I had to ask for a half breakfast which raised a smile. If you want to book a meal at the restaurant I'd recommend doing it in advance. We were warned it books up early and the dining area was certainly bustling when we had our evening meal on the second night. The diverse menu didn't disappoint and neither did the prices for the large portions presented.

The Inn's location is easy to find on Coalport High Street which is the main road into Ironbridge. Close to a few of the Ironbridge museums (the nearest being the Tar and China museums) it is well situated for easy access to local attractions. I'd happily return and stay at the Shakespeare Inn again when visiting Ironbridge again.
