“Let down by the small things”
Reviewed September 13, 2013 via mobile

The White House provided a welcome break for us halfway through a long journey in some foul road conditions. We found the hotel very easily but for some reason they have decided to hide the entrance to the car park. Very difficult to spot on a dark wet evening
Once inside the hotel we found the reception staff to be most helpful. Check in was fast and efficient, rooms easily found. The first thing we found in the room however was Urine left in the toilet (not pleasant). The problem appeared to be that the flush was broken ! Back to the reception where once again the Ladies on the desk were excellent and sorted us out with a new room which had a working toilet.
We had a lovely nights sleep once the yappy dog next door had quieted down at about midnight.
Overall the hotel is very good for what it is, someone Just needs to be a bit more thorough with there room checks

We went as a large group (20+), who had booked a spa and party weekend away. We had a triple room. 1 kingsize, 1 double and a fold out bed. Luckily we kne each other well enough to share the kingsize as the camp bed did not look very comfortable!

The room and bathroom were clean, just a few minor things. Bedroom for 3 people only had 2 towels, and only one small tube of body wash, also only one feminine hygiene disposal bags. All rectified as best as possible by staff. An extra towel provided, they'd run out of shower gel so gave us more shampoo They had also ran out of bags, but gave us some little plastic ones that were ok...9/10 for improvisation! The TV and Wi-Fi didn't work, I can't say I was bothered but my travelling companions were. Staff came to the room, plugged in a cable and fixed the TV. There was a problem with the codes given, but I think the main problem was my friends as the 2 members of staff who came to the room managed to log them on! They also found our tea, coffee, kettle and biscuits which were tucked away in a drawer. Again there were only 2 cups and we were a party of 3, but this was sorted quickly.

The spa area was smaller than I thought it would be. The pool was small also. What with it being a hot day, and summer hols it was pretty busy as the gym is open for public membership. Steam room and sauna were nice and clean. The Jacuzzi was pleasant, but could've been a bit warmer if I had 1 criticism. As a membership gym we could ask about the local area. I don't know the name of the guy who worked in the gym, but he was really helpful, and pleasant.

It was pie night in the restaurant. I didn't eat but my friends polished theirs off and said it was lovely. Both were more than happy to pay £10 for their meal which included a glass of wine.

I really enjoyed my breakfast- the full English really hit the spot.

The hotel itself is what I would say is an average decent hotel, with nice friendly helpful staff.

Was the hotel equivalent of Ronseal. Did what it said on the tin, and flatters to deceive.

Rooms were okay, clean and tidy, however it looks like nothing has been upgraded since it was opened when the new football stadium was built.

Was good value for money at £45 including the spa.

Speaking of the spa and leisure facilities - we went in the morning, and a completely non interested chap just let us walk straight in, no questions asked. He almost seemed shocked by the fact we'd dared to speak to him/ask for towels.

The changing rooms were, again, okay... however the spa on its website allows you to apparently...

"Welcome to Life@Whitehouse, a fresh new approach towards health and fitness, a facility where you can train hard, relieve stress or simply relax and enjoy the leisure environment."

I would have loved to relieve stress and relax, but there's no mention on the website about the water-babies classes that run in the spa, so sitting in the Jacuzzi listening to "Splish, splash, splish, splash, round in circles and UP IN THE AIR!" wasn't the most relaxed I've ever been.

I have nothing against this - as I'm about to be a father myself, but don't advertise yourself as a tranquil spa, when you use the spa for other things. If I'd booked it predominantly for the spa as a group of women etc, I'd be annoyed.

However, if you are travelling up the country, and need a cheap place literally just to crash. The Whitehouse is fine.

On the 27th July 2013 Me and my wife stayed at this hotel for one night. It was the worst night in a hotel that we have ever had. Our problems were caused by the level of noise coming from our neighbours in the room next door. We realised that there was the potential of a sleepless night early on when we were bombarded with the noise of what appeared to be explosions in a computer game or a really violent movie turned up to maximum volume . At around 11:40PM they began to play x rated R&B dance music with highly offensive lyrics at the sort of volume appropriate for a lively bar on a Saturday night. The room we were in was a connected room with a joining door which did not help the situation. Therefore we decided that we would have to ask for another room.

We called reception at 11:50pm and were told by the receptionist that they were unable to deal with our request and that we would need to wait for a colleague to contact us who was currently dealing with an emergency in the hotel. We got out of bed, packed all our things and got dressed waiting for a call. We waited until 12:30am. I decided to go downstairs to reception to see if there was any news. I was told that the member of staff was still dealing with the emergency situation and somebody would contact us. After that we waited in the room until the early hours but nobody bothered to get back to us. Even if there was nobody available to deal with our issue until the next day we should have at least been told what was happening. The receptionist knew we were sat there waiting for a call. Eventually the occupants of the next door room decided to go out for a few hours at which point we fell asleep. They returned a few hours later and we awoke again. The next morning we left the hotel exhausted and drained.

I sent an email to the general manager to complain. We did not get a reply.

This hotel is rated 4star. I have had far better customer service in budget hotels.

We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting RAF Cosford and Ironbridge. We had a good sized family room which was great. Our two boys loved being able to use the pool (towels provided) and the reception team were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: We had a room on the 2nd floor at the back and it was very quiet

Stayed here for one night to break up the long journey home from Scotland to Essex.

On arrival my partner placed his debit card into the machine to pay for the room as it was only reserved on line, but the receptionist told us "card has been declined". As we knew this to be an impossibility we asked her to try it again, and low and behold it went through and we were then advised that she was "new to the machine".....eh? With a queue forming behind, being told your card had been declined was not a good start.

When we got into the room it was a twin, which was not what we had booked, I called reception straight away and was told that all the double rooms had gone as they had got very busy quickly. I was not prepared to accept this as we would not have stayed in this hotel if a twin room was the only available option.

After a short while standing my ground, she said she would call me back but as there were no double rooms left she didn't know what she would be able to do. I made it clear that I had booked a double and wanted a double, not two very small beds. Suddenly, a double room was found for us.

Very clean hotel and room, although bathroom tile grout needed a clean/re-grout.

Plenty of hot water and we had a good nights sleep in a quiet room at the back. I cannot really see a 4 star here, but it was ok and we would probably stay again.

Aside of the debit card embarrassment and the confusion as to whether there was a double room free, the receptionist was friendly and helpful, and did her best to resolve the room issue. Although why we're we told they had no availability when they clearly did?!

Overall, it was a fair hotel.

3 night stay over here, well-appointed hotel with leisure facilities included so use of gym, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna a welcome bonus. Modern hotel, car park off main road (sharp right turn after traffic lights into Regent Street) adjacent to AFC Telford Utd. Room clean, comfy bed, tricky shower/bath combo (turn too far as I did and get soaked) but plenty of room and towels refreshed daily as was tea/coffee with a welcome generous supply of milk.
Breakfast excellent, all freshly cooked and additional requests all catered for by helpful staff. Orange juice ran out on 1st morning but minor quibble.
Bar area comfortable and quiet, closed early at 10.30 on last night (wasn't sure why) and we were politely directed to 'The Dugout' sports bar for further orders - fine but Sky sports coverage tended to deter quiet conversation. Again only a minor issue and didn't spoil what was a nice relaxing break - certainly return next time we visit the area.
