We have used this restaurant several times over the last few years as we are frequent visitors to the area. The change to Toby is mixed - there is a wider range of vegetables and meat. However on Wednesday 20 the carvery shut early due to staffing problems. We were fed incorrect information by the staff as we were told to return at 8 pm when the problems would be solved. However the restaurant closed at 7.45 or so . Also on the morning of Friday 22 the restaurtant was closed due to till problems. A lot of the staff are new and inexperienced. Toby need to sort things out as they will lose customers. However the place is excellent value - you can get a huge plateful of food for £3.99.

I took my daughters for a lunchtime carvery today as a half term treat, unlikely to be repeated as although the building has had a lick of paint and new carpets, table and chairs it is a shame that the cost has been bumped up to cover the refubishment.
Arriving at the start of the lunchtime I was suprised that the pork joint was dried out, the pork scratchings had no tongs to help yourself but upon asking they were located and handed over, the man carving was moaning that he wanted to go home as he was aching and simply kept saying to the other man who was bringing out the dishes of yorkshire puddings etc that he was going to need to get ready to take over from him, he then started to talk about stories of why peanuts were removed from the bars in pubs, not what you want to hear whilst being served!
The stuffing was so hard you could have built an extension and the yorkshire puddings were aneamic looking. The various pots of help yourself vegetables are now placed so awkwardly that my 5 year old struggled to reach and was not happy when I had to help dish up peas and carrots to prevent them from ending up on the counter or the floor!
I have always found the staff friendly, helpful and approachable and a change from crown to toby carvery hasn't changed the staff approach and behaviour.
My children were upset that the ice cream machine had been removed and I'm sorry but I refused to purchase a standard icecream from there as I had already spent £20 for 3 of us on the meal and 3 soft drinks. It is not very likely that we will be returing any time soon.

Me and 4 others ate here for my mothers birthday, we decided on this venue as they had a Carvery and it had recently been renovated. The first problem came when the inexperienced waitress messed up our order bringing us the incorrect wine. The second was the Carvery meat was very dry even when it had just been brought from the kitchen, the queue for the Carvery was long, and the server looked like he didn't want to be there, was slow at his job and seemed a little clueless! On eating our meals we stupidly ordered ice cream for my nefue, 35 minted after ordering we decided it wasn't worth waiting for! Moral of the story, there's a first and last time for everything!
