We go to the Grove every couple of weeks ( and have done for the last few years) as we can't get a better meal, service or atmosphere. The Rock is fantastic, you get to cook your meat exactly how you like it and the steak is the most succulent we've ever had (the staff always explain the Rock to you so you can't go wrong) .

We have 3 children, age 10, 6 and 11 months. The meals are fantastic, good portions and the range of puddings is amazing. Trying to decide what to have is the challenge as they are all so nice, but you can take them home if your either too full or like us can't choose between a few so have one for later!

Apart from the rock there is a large range to choose from the menu and the owners change their menu's regularly so you always get different choices.

The atmosphere is friendly, relaxing and cosy. The staff are brilliant, nothing is ever to much trouble. The restaurants dog is a winner with the children!

Can honestly say that this restaurant is worth trying.

“Evening meal”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Unwelcoming, Not child friendly huge hot greasy (battered nuggetts) meal placed infront of my 20 month old which she was unable to eat. When I mentioned to the landlord a full adult sized plated meal was unsuitable he said "well you should of said it was for a toddler", wasnt this obvious to the waitress who took the order infront of her??Dog in communal area growled at my 3 year old relative, staff warned her dont stroke the dog, If he isnt freindly he shouldnt be in a communal area?? You have to pay a surcharge to have your meat cooked in the kitchen of £3 or if you want a baked potatoe instead of chips! The black rock grilled steak is nice, however ,we were not told that the mixed grill and the fish also arrives uncooked on the black rock, my niece was unable to eat her tiger prawns as she was unsure at what point they would be cooked. My husband who ordered the mixed grill was given steak, pork and gammon to cook for himself with no salad just chips. Totally money orientated establishment which neglects service.

in response to your review, im sorry you didn't enjoy your stay of over 3 hours with us,, i know the rest of your party of 11 thoroughly enjoyed it,,as they left gratuities and comments for our staff ,of which all of them are very accommodating and polite, as you can see by all the other reviews on our site . I wonder why you ordered a child's meal for such a young child as all my children meals are standard, you could have had a spare plate to take of yours, or you could have shared a plate between the 2 children, you also ordered a dessert for the children that was of the adults menu. When you spoke to John about your child's meal ,you would not allow him to try and resolve the only issue you had, as you put your hand up and said "whatever" and walked away.I will however !!! speak up for toby the dog,, he has been here for 11 years and children come to see him, and it was bought to my attention that you were the last of your party to leave as you were waiting for your mother who was playing with Toby, We are a restaurant, and we do accommodate children, but do expect the parents to respect other diners and not allow children to run around or sit on other peoples tables !

A first time visit, and it won't be the last.Fab-u - lous ,as Craig would say! A very warm and friendly welcome by the staff.Great starters, and plenty to choose from. The steak on the rock was wonderful.A nice experience for us.A cabinet of homemade mouthwatering puds to tempt you as well.Having had two large courses already ,we were to full to try them. However,we did take them home for later!

“Fantastic food, great staff and great service -”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

Having driven past the grove for many years, we went in to try their famous "black rock grill" one day - little did we know it would be the start of what has been many fabulous meals prepared by chef/proprietor Leslie accompanied by great wines and beers served by husband John ....
Their Sunday platters are a must, but book early to avoid disappointment as they also have a varied menu as well as the "black rock grill" and the menu changes regularly. One more thing - if you can manage a sweet - they are delicious and all home made. All the food is cooked to order fresh.

“SUPERB!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Had the most amazing meal at The Grove, this is now most definately my restaurant of choice. Cant wait to go again.

This was our choice of venue for our "first date" have to laugh saying that! We were warmly welcomed at the bar and shown to our table. The waitress was brilliant and such a laugh (it was her birthday and she had to wear a huge badge declaring the fact)

For starters, I ordered lightly battered Dublin Bay Prawns (Im sure thats what they were called) they were delicious and if this had been my last meal on earth I would have been over the moon. My "date" had a Manchester Egg (again Im sure thats its name) he was of the same opinion as me, superb. Date going well so far and he even bought me another drink!

Onto main courses, we both chose the black rock fillet steak, one word ... wow! It was explained how the steak would be cooked, seared on the black rock, which is incredibly hot, for a few seconds then served. You cut pieces of steak off and it cooks to your liking. The rock stayed red hot right until the last mouthfull had gone. This was served with onions and mushrooms and handcut chips and a side salad. Every single mouthfull was a joy, I dont usually get all romantic about food but this meal was beyond words.

Now for the desserts, on display is the most wonderful array of cakes and such that you simply cannot ignore. We decided to share one ... ahhh how romantic! Well it was till it arrived then Im afraid to say it was every man for himself! Naturally I bagged the bigger half! We had strawberry merangue roulade, with cream, again to die for!

I cannot praise The Grove highly enough. The staff, the food, the atmosphere all absolutely faultless. Im sure it was because of the success of this meal that I managed to get a second date with my gentleman friend, guess where we will be going!!!
