I went to this hotel to use the lounge for a business meeting with a colleague on Thursday 25th October 2012 and this was my fourth visit to this hotel for meetings. It is very well postioned within a mile or so off the M4 motorway. The house has a great deal of character and is set in its own grounds. The staff very very helpful and friendly. Parking was very easy. We were able to hold the meeting and use the facilities of the hotel without a problem. We had lunch there and bought coffee there during the day. The menu was reasonable for this good class of hotel and the service was first rate. I would certainly recommend the hotel and its staff.

Perfect location for a wedding and reception. Staff were helpful and friendly. However after arriving after a long journey, our request for a sandwich and cup of tea could not be met and staff very helpfully directed us to a nearby pub. By the time we had driven elsewhere, ordered and waited for our food, we had no time left to get ready for the wedding we were attending. Apart from this, every thing else was great.

Thank you for your review. We endeavour to assist with guest requests which leaves us most disappointed to have failed to provide you with a choice of sandwiches. Thank you for drawing our attention to this and for your other positive comments.

We were tired and bedraggled after roaming all over southern England when we drove up to Chiseldon House, but from the moment we entered this charming hotel we were welcomed, pampered, and comfortable.

The basics. This is a lovely, historic manor house set in several acres of gardens in a quiet residential area, easy to access from the A346. The photos on their web site are accurate. Convenient paved parking on the grounds, professional and gracious check-in (and out), spotlessly clean room and bath, comfortable bed and pillows, new fabrics, flat screen tv, everything in the room working perfectly. No air conditioning (we're spoiled Americans!), but we were quite comfortable with the transom windows ajar. Really lovely restaurant with white linen tablecloths and, importantly, good food!

The details. We were here three days in Room 2, one of the larger rooms up the staircase overlooking the front gardens. Our room had French doors that opened to a small veranda along the front of the house to which Room 3 also connects. There was no road noise; we knew there was a road about 200 yards away but could not see or hear it. My husband heard a rooster one morning....love it!

We ate two dinners (and our breakfasts) in the elegant aqua blue and white restaurant, seated in an alcove overlooking the courtyard listening to soft classical music. Very romantic! I had roast pork one night and baked chicken the other, both tender and tasty, with vegetables and potatoes. It was so good to eat wholesome, well-cooked food after all the fried food we'd had while traveling. Very nice desserts too; would love to have had their afternoon tea, but we were out. Our server, Lauren, was perfect. On Friday night the restaurant was closed due to a large private party, which could have been a problem since we didn't want to drive into Swindon (a rather larger town). But, no problem, room service was available and we had beer, soup and sandwiches in our room while we watched tv.

Swindon is a very convenient base for exploring Bath and Oxford. Sue, the gracious and efficient manager, called me a cab to the train station (cost: 8 pounds) after printing off for me the train schedules. Trains run every thirty minutes to both places (cost: about 9 pounds), both only a thirty minute trip. In both Bath and Oxford you just walk from the train stations to the sites; it couldn't have been easier. A tip...the cab the desk calls for you is about 4 pounds cheaper than the cabs you get from the front of the Swindon train station.

The negatives. None to speak of. I absolutely did not feel any sense of shabbiness in Chiseldon House as mentioned by a previous reviewer. Yes, there was some peeling paint around the outside of the French door in our room, and yes, I wish the water pressure in the shower were greater, but this is a restored 170 year old country house, not new construction. And it is a work in progress, but the progress they've made so far is quite satisfactory, I must say!

In summary, this was a restful, beautiful retreat for us amidst a hectic two week trip. Thank you, Sue, for your many kindnesses and you, Mark, for putting your heart and soul into your hotel. (I'm sure David does too, but I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him!) The metal detecting rally my husband was attending in the area may become a yearly event for us; if so, we will definitely be returning to Chiseldon.

We had a lovely wedding ceremony and reception here in the summer. The staff bent over backwards to help make the day perfect. The food was gorgeous and the gardens are perfect for photos and drinks. It also has a great lounge area for people who don't want to listen to music in the evening.
Our room was large and comfortable, we had no issues with anything.
The breakfast the next day was top notch and I was amazed to see the same staff back again working hard after very little sleep! They had even packed everything up for me to take away. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Mark, Sue and the rest of the gang.

I booked a function here for around 60 people. Sadly it was my Mother's funeral wake and we wanted somewhere suitable. I'd been to a couple of wedding receptions at Chiseldon House and was impressed with the facilities so I felt that it would be the best option out of those available. I wasn't wrong. They provided a top quality buffet and there was plenty for everyone. The room they provided was comfortable and intimate but roomy enough for people to circulate. The Staff were really nice, friendly and helpful to everyone. We wanted a celebration of my Mum's life and the Management and Staff at Chiseldon House helped us to achieve it. Well Done and Thank You.

This feels like a proper country hotel although it is only 10 mins from Swindon. The grounds are nice, the rooms large and the staff helpful.

But overall it does feel a little run down, but not to bad. The breakfast was good with excellent scrambled eggs. However the evening meal was poor the Sardines hardly edible and the risoto underdone.

Having said that got a good discount so probably value for money

Taking a party of 17 adults away is not an easy task, BUT Chiseldon House made it so. All of the staff Sue, Mark and thier entire staff were exceedingly helpful, attended to our every need and made our stay an imensly enjoyable one. Almost all of the rooms had been refurbished to a high standard and were very comfortable. I had arranged to have the private dining room for both of our nights stay. The food which had been pre- ordered was brought in with no fuss and was exceeding well managed. All of the orders where correct and the food was of an equally high standard to the level of service we received. Nothing was too much trouble, a level of service that is hard to find now.
A huge thank you to you all.
S.M.

Room Tip: Room 9 was large, light and airy with a double aspect overlooking the grounds and courtyard
