Stanton Park is now owned by Swindon Borough Council and has been open to the general public for several years. Originally it was the residence of Sir Geoffery Tritton. The Manor house is now the Stanton House Hotel and has links I believe with Honda in Swindon. Cream teas etc are available from this hotel. The woods are easily accessed by pathways and there is a visitor centre. There is a large car park. The large lake near the Hotel is picturesque and can vary in depth from around 4 feet to approx 12 feet at the dam wall end. The fishing on this lake is controlled by a local angling club. There is a large pond not far from the car park and this is home to lots of frogs, toads and newts. A great place for kids to explore but keep an eye on them near the water.

Hadn't been to this park before and found it a very pleasant walk with friends who live locally. Good car parking facilities; made up paths and interesting lake. However, for us it was the variety of trees that were of most interest. This is a park off the beaten track and many from the nearby town of Swindon are unaware that it exists. Stanton is a small village boasting the Stanton House Hotel which caters for those who enjoy Japanese cuisine.

The park can be found in the village of Stanton Fitzwarren, just off the A361 bewteen Swindon and Highworth. With a lake as its centrepiece and small but interesting visitor centre, we had a number of options to choose from when deciding where to walk; woodland, lakeside and open fields (or all three!). Some walks are fine in ordinary shoes but walking boots are advisable if you want to get the most out of the park, especially in winter. You would never believe that you were close to the town of Swindon, a massive Honda factory or the nearby light industrial estate – you really feel as if you are in the middle of the country. If you really want to make the most of your time, take a diversion into the adjacent Stanton House Hotel (a gateway leads from the park directly into their garden). In good weather, the large patio overlooking the lake is a great place to have a cream tea, each person having a large scone (jam and cream of course), two, yes two, pieces of cake plus coffee or tea – I paid just under £10 for the 2 of us!
